Same reason we got involved in the second one really; we were only what, 14 years (?) from being a British colony, and still part of the Commonwealth. Ties with Britian were much stronger back then, so we went to war to fight for the motherland.

I thought Australias involvement in the second world war had a lot to do with Japan and there various encroachments on your special parts.

We were at war pretty much the instant Britian was. My grandad was taken prisoner by ze Germans.

Aside from a few bombing raids on Darwin, the Japs never got to Australian soil.

Yeah, but they were trying weren't they?

I know a lot of Australians were put into prisoner of war camps from fighting the Japs and a lot of them didn't survive. The pictures show them skinny like Holocaust victims.

Yeah, they were quite nasty on their prisoners. Australia's major involvement was fighting the gooks in the Pacific, but they were involved in the fighting over in Europe prior to this.
