WOBURN - After a bizarre confrontation in the police station lobby early this morning, the sister of a 41-year-old Main Street resident had second thoughts about assuming custody of her family member after the reportedly intoxicated woman claimed she was possessed by the devil.
Refusing to assume responsibility of the 41-year-old at approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning, the sister forced police to call in Officers John Vallis and Joseph Mantone to monitor the Woburn resident, who allegedly threatened to kill herself in response to her sister's reluctance to assume custody of her.
After a Lexington Crisis Team evaluated the Main Street resident as she sat handcuffed to a bar at the bench of her cell, the woman was again cleared to be released once she sobered up.
After receiving an initial complaint at 9:11 p.m. on Sunday night about a female hitchhiker staggering down the middle of Main Street, investigating Officer David Simonds placed the woman in protective custody after he determined that the 41-year-old was a threat to herself because of her purported state of intoxication.
According to a police report, the woman claimed that she was attempting to hitch a ride to Somerville. Requesting that the woman either return to her Main Street residence or find a sober adult to drive her to the desired destination, Simonds detained the woman after she purportedly refused to do either. |
