For me I think it was a little while after the INVASION... like there was the brand separation bit, and there was the introduction of another world title, and Chuck and Billy were being gay together. It just got tired on me. I didn't follow wrestling for a long time either really; I only started in about '98 or '99, when there was that Corporation versus DX battle.
Man, I can't even remember when I last watched week to week. It's been 2-4 years at least. I watched the end of RAW a week (?) or two ago when Bastia decided to face Triple H. I'll admit, it was a pretty great moment to see Bastia crash Triple H into the table despite never having seen Bastia wrestling or speak a word before.
I think WWE needs some good characters and a different perspective on the sport. Sometimes I'll watch it for a minute or two and it seems exactly like it was when I left it. Sure, a few new guys here and there but nothing has drastically changed. It looks the same, feels the same, and it's just all the same.
I remember when Stone Cold crashed on the scene and how exciting everything was. WWE really made an effort to change and grow during that time. They need something like that again.
Great characters and the desire to take a risk.
However, I have just grown out of the whole thing. I can't ever see myself watching it for more than a few minutes here and there.

I started watching wrestling myself when I was like 4 years old and I loved it. Then I got to be about 12 or 13 years old..and it wasn't "cool" to watch anymore so I stopped.
Then in '96 the whole NWO thing came about and everyone my age was suddenly talking about wrestling again, and I was like what? It must be pretty entertaining if kids my age are watching this..So I tuned in, and got suckered back into watching every week and have been to this day. It's had it ups and downs along the way, but I usually never do anything on Monday Night, just chill at the house, so I put it on and watch cuz nothing else entertains me on Mon. except Monday Night Football.
Yeah I watched it since I was like six up until around 2000'ish. I watched it even when it sucked, the so called "dark ages" of wrestling. Looking back on things, I bet the time I missed was much better then it was in the early nineties when I watched and it was godawful shit. Oh well, I was young and stupid.

When I got to high school and really didn't have time to watch it every week. I still do as much as I can, I just find it hard to really get into again.
Grade 12, so around 2001. I was last enthralled with the whole Benoit/Jericho vs. Austin angle, back when it looked like their was a really bright future for each. Then when the invasion and brand split occurred and yet another failed nWo resurrection, followed by the final nail in the coffin, the release of Raven, I simply lost interest.

I watched up until the Wrestlemania that featured Lesnar v. Goldberg. Was that last year or the year before? After that, I seemingly lost complete interest overnight and now I don't even pause if I come across it while flicking through channels. I think I just lost the patience to sit through all the crap so that I could catch the few good moments of each show.
I started watching it when I was around 7 or 8 and then that stopped when my stuck in the dark ages parents claimed it was too violent and girls don't watch it. Got back into it in University thanks to a friend of mine.
