Guns (a Debate)

Ok I'm gonna try and start some serious debates in WCT over the next few weeks. There gonna beover general issues and everyone is free to debate their point. Every week for as long as the debate lasts I will give out a post of the week award as well and at the end of the year we'll have poster of the year which will be decided by whoever has most post of the week accoclades.

I'm gonna try and start with a debate on gun control.

Do you think that gun control should be stricter or more relaxed?

Do you feel that you have the right to carry ANY weapon you choose wheter it be an AK or a small handgun?

Do you feel that guns are the reason for such high homicide/murder rates in the US, or is it more a personal responsibility?

All points are valid, awards are given to those who presents the most clearly constructed argument, irrelevent of which side of the debate they land.

And to add, we have had this debate many times on this forum and it only leads to bad things. Not to mention it applies differently with each country.

I believe gun control should be relaxed. Personally, I feel everyone should own a gun. If everyone has a gun then that will practically eliminate crime. Because if you do something to someone and they have a gun you know the chances are you will get killed. Therefore, the more people who have guns the less crimes will get committed.

My personal opinion is that the presence of guns does not lead to violence. Deeper sociological issues are what lead to violence, and the use of guns is only a by-product.

However, because of these social issues that need to be addressed, it would be better for society if guns were not so readily available. If it was more difficult to get your hands on a gun, it then becomes more difficult to commit crimes.

I also see no reason why anyone should own an assault weapon. The reason why people are allowed to carry guns is self-defense. An assault weapon is not a weapon used for self-defense. It is intended to spray bullets in a large area in a short amount of time, which does not constitute self-defense.

Letting people carry guns as 'self-defence' is side stepping the real issue and in itself creating an entirely new issue and entirely new problems.

The problem is that the right to bear arms is in the U.S. Constitution, which is extremely difficult to amend. Perhaps in other countries there arent such legal issues to deal with, but in the U.S., its a major sticking point.

The reason why it was put in there was so that the citizens of the U.S. could have means to protect themselves in case of an enemy attack. Self-defense.

So no, it is not side-stepping the issue. By the Constitution of the United States of America, U.S. citizens are legally allowed to own a firearm for the purpose of self-defense.

you need guns to survive in my area. you never know when people are just gonna run up on you at a red light and put the metal to ya dome so you gotta be prepared.
