Nike (Pronounced Nikey in the U.S. and similar to Mike, in the U.K.)

What if this company were to stop exploiting people in the countries in which it produced a lot of its goods? They would most likely move somewhere else, as the benefit to them of cheaper labour is gone, and so where would this leave the state of the people in those countries that Nike used to give jobs to? Better or worse? Worse.

It depends really - the chances of them getting other jobs and making any money at all seems remote. I'm not condoning Nike, I actually think they suck big time, especially as they're paid SO little - but they have little other choice...

I was going to make a post about Nike, funnily enough, but not about this. I was thinking - the Standupspeakout campaign they're running - are they exploiting racism in an attempt to gain publicity and make money? It seems that way...

I'm not sure if it was them who started the campaign, but to me the bands are useless. Merely a fashion accessory for Nike to launch, however the appearance of those bands in competitive matches, and the special kits they've used in certain games, I think may help so even if they are doing it for PR reasons (which they are), much like the case I stated above, it still helps things in a way. Also without there involvement you wouldn't see half as many people and players with these bands. Where does the money go to though?

Apparently Thierry Henry was the one who came up with the idea of the bands, and took the idea to nike. I deffinatly think it's alot of PR for the guys at Nike. The only places you could get the Livestrong bands were from Nike factory outlets, yet they didnt seem to be as involved as they are with Stand Up Speak Up.

As for where the money goes I got this from the official Stand Up Speak Up website:

"A minimum donation of 2 Euros (£1.50). All the money raised will be administerd and distrubuted by the independent king Baudouin foundation (KBF) to support anti-racism projects and initiatives accross europe. A maximum of 25% of your donation will go towards the cost of the wristband"

Perhaps they do help with charities - but the publicity they get is going to be a lot. And, I suppose they see it as putting them in a good light - aiding a good cause.
