Some old guy made claims that he was going to gas himself to death because he has a fatal illness. The people on the news keep saying that suicide isn't illegal, but that assisted suicide is. How the hell could suicide be illegal? If you kill yourself would they throw you in jail? What if you made a failed attempt? Would they just give you a warning? If they knew you had intent, is that when they would jail you?

Pretty stupid comment from the media, if you ask me.

The old guy said he couldn't think of a worse way to die than not being able to breath (he has a lung disease). Yet, he plans to gas himself to death, thereby not being able to breath. Alrighty then.

Yeh suicide isn't illegal, but people can be found guilty connected with a suicide if they helped in anyway, or didn't use reasonable measures to prevent it if they could. In Britain anyway.

There are four places in the world (Oregon, Belgium, Netherlands are three) where assisted suicide is legal. There's a fairly extensive procedure to follow I believe, but it's still legal in those places.
