Here's what i did:

I played the slots, and won 60 bucks.

Then i lost 200 playing poker, so i was 140 in the hole

so i decide to go to my bread and butter, which is betting red/black on roulette...and i'm consistently winning over and over again, and before i know it, i'm up like 110. so i'm thinking about cashing out, but then i see a roulette table where 4 blacks have come out in a row. i'm like "aight, i gotta bet red here" so i put like 50 bucks on red, and another black comkes out. so i'm like "aight, NOW a red's gonna come out" .another black. another black. another black. 9 blacks in a row!!!! i was down 340 at that point.

but then i won like 90 playing blackjack, so i finished down 250

lol, that sucks. i won like 50 bucks in 10 min on roulette when i went to aruba. then i casehd out while i was ahead. the nickel slots are good to win on. you don't win much but it adds up.

If the roulette wheel spins on black 300 times, the odds of it being black to red on the 301st spin remain identical as they did on the first spin.

But the chances of 9 in a row are significantly lower

*edit* in fact, i calculated it as a less than 1 in 1000 chance

Think of it like flipping a coin. On the first flip, there's a 50-50 chance. Now, flip it again. There are four possible combinations for the two flips: heads-heads, heads-tails, tails-heads, tails-tails

Thus, the chances of two consecutive heads is 1 in 4, not 1 in 2, even though the individual chance of each flip is one-half

But when you are gambling, you're going one spin at a time. With my last example, the odds of going 301 black spins in a row are ~1/(2^301), yet once you've gotten to that 300th spin, the odds of the next spin are the same as any other spin in the history of roulette, ~1/2.

Yeah, but why wouldn't you look at it one spin at a time? It's not like you're putting 50 bucks on 9 blacks in a row, it's a 50/50 no matter how you look at it.
