California couldn't really be considered a "blue" state back in '66 when Reagan was elected governor. It was won by Johnson in the previous election in '64, but so were 44 other states. The Republicans won California in every other election during that time period, with Eisenhower in '54, and Nixon in '60, '68, and '72.

I know, I'm pointing out how this discussion of celebrities and politics is a weak one on both sides.

I'm sick of Republicans going on about how celebrities can't get votes when two of the Republicans were celebrities themselves. Further, look at people like Bruce Willis who the conservatives whore out every chance they get. I don't hear liberals crying about it, so why are we making so much out of the topic?

I mentioned it because I think the Dems tried to play the "celebrity card" harder than ever this year. But now that I step back and look at it, I don't know if that was the doing of the Democrats or whether it was just pub-hungry celebs forcing themselves into the spotlight. Probably the second one.
