Do you ever feel threatened, outside?
This is more a question for the guys on here who live in NYC, LA, Chicago, Toronto, and Boston... when you're outside walking from place to place, do you ever feel threatened?

I've just graduated, but I've lived most of my life in a small town, near a small city, and I feel like venturing out into the world. A place like New York City seems like loads of fun, until I hear about people getting beaten and murdered... how realistic is this?

What do you guys think?

Toronto is a pretty safe place. I felt a lot less safe when I lived in Vancouver. I had people firing guns off in the house next to me, guys jumping out of bushes at me to buy weed, assholes wanting to fight because I wouldn't give them a smoke and seeing someone rob an apt in the building i lived.

I have always felt save anywhere i went in toronto. There are some bad areas but no real reason to be there unless you live there.

its blown WAY out of proportion. i have no fear whatsoever walking around the streets on new york

in a city of 10 million people, things are bound to happen, but its not anything to be too worried about. i'm sure its similar in other big cities

My part of LA is great. I walk around all the time at night and never feel unsafe. The most dangerous thing in my area is drunken frat guys. There are, however, definately parts of LA that I don't feel comfortable in during the day, and wouldn't dream of walking around at night. I think that's the case with every city, there's good parts and bad parts. You just need to find out which are which.

It depends a great deal on where you are located in that city. Of course, there's some areas that are pretty bad but the overwhelming majority of most big cities are fine.

Chicago is very safe. There's a large mafia scene though, probably larger than anywhere else in the country.

Detroit is NOT safe. None of it.
