Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Condi: "Bush = FDR, Churchill" ...... http://www.trivalleyherald.com/Stori...189429,00.html I don't have the words. This only further confirms the one fear I had when voting for this manchild - his advisors wouldn't be some elite intelletual collective, but rather on a much similar plane of stupidity. This boobery knows no bounds - how can Condi Rice, supposedly very well educated and one of the most "powerful" people in the US today, compare W to two of the greatest politicians to ever walk this Earth? If I was British, I'll be spitting acid and fire right now. I'm not even going to dismantle Condi's logic on this - simple objective observation of the facts of Bush's botched presidential tenure should, by default, squash such thinking before it hits the second synapse. Obviously, we're dealing with a woman who has either been infected with stupidity from serving in Bush's cabinet, or was talking with a gun to her head. Or maybe she's just a f*cking lunatic. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Bush is no FDR. FDR pulled us out of a DEPRESSION. Bush can barely handle a recession.
| When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21:20-28 | ||

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | I disagree. I think the big reason people loved FDR was for helping to pull us out of a Depression. A man who created jobs out of nothing (ex. Timmy dig a hole, John fill the hole up) shouldn't be compared with a man who struggles with a recession. That's a big reason for it to be silly, IMO.

Rep Power: 9 ![]() | The reason I said that is because of all things, I think Bush has handled the economy decently. He inherited the recession from his predecessor (not that I'm blaming Clinton) and appears to have turned it around relatively quickly. We've had this discussion on these boards before relative to how much influence a president really has on the economy, and I tend to believe it's not much, and that goes for both Bush and FDR. Credit is usually given to WWII for pulling us out of the depression rather than FDR specifically, and I generally agree with that assessment. When comparing Bush to FDR and Churchill, the first thing that jumped to my mind was the eloquence of those to as compared to Bush. Even though Rice was talk about the comparison in totally different ways, that's the reason I would have a hard time ever putting Bush and those two in the same sentence. |

I agree with you that Bush did walk into a bad situation. But he also inherited a huge budget surplus and promptly turned it into the largest defecit (in nominal terms) in history. 9/11 had something to do with it of course, but i still think Bush should have done a better job with the economy....especially since i graduated into that shitty economy :x
