Well the summer blockbusters are arriving in force now.

Anyone seen Troy? What did you think?

Personally I thought it was a good film, no way a classic, but a good film. It was loosly based on the Iliad, but it strayed quite a bit. (Achilles love interest in the Iliad is his second in command :eek: )

The cinematography was brilliant, it looked absolutley fanstatic, my money is on it winning the cinematography Oscar next year. The CGI was great too.

Props to Eric Bana too who played a blinder as Prince Hector, he was really good compared to Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom who were as wooden as the Trojan Horse.

Thought the ending was crap though as it didn't really tell you why Achilles heel was his weak spot, took me nearly an hour to explain it to my gf but there you go.

At almost 3 hours, I found this movie about 2 hours and 30 minutes too long.

I found the acting bland, almost as if they tried to get it all on the first take so as more time could be spent focusing on the action. The dialouge itself was awful though, and even otherwise enjoyable actors could not save it.

The characters themselves were ranged from slightly irritable to blatantly dislikable, regardless of how they tried to position them. Never before have I witnessed a movie with a cast so blatantly absent of one redeemable feature. If it weren't for the music I'd have been unable to determine who I was supposed to be rooting for in the war.

And the action...well I suppose it kept me from walking out of the cinema (Note: I've never actually walked out on a movie I hadn't seen before). The thing is, we're getting to a time when things in cinema really do look real. Movies like braveheart could be sold on battles due to the fact that they were better than anything before them. You can only get so realistic, and I think they've gotten to the point that any advancements are not noticeable - certainly not to the extent that a movie can be sold on it.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the battles are like the ones in Braveheart. They're much worse. Think family friendly. Think long meaningless, predictable discussion about love and honour. Think a bunch of big name actors rambling through the motions in order to make a few more million dollars.

I give Troy 4 and a half stars.

Saw it, liked it. The sets, costuming and fight sequences were wonderful. Eric Bana as Prince Hector was cool, I wanted to shoot Orlando Bloom throughout the whole movie, he was such a p****. I even enjoyed how they inluded Odysseus (I think that's how you spell it, not sure) in the film too.

It was an average film, I was expecting a lot better and it dragged on way to long, and I think Brad Pitt is a D***head anyway

That is a good point actually, never thought of that. never seen Braveheart though so I can't jugde.

One thing which I think Disco was alluding too, was to say Brad Pitt was supposed to be the good guy in this film, he comes across as a dick fighting for an unjust cause.

Eric Bana was by far the best actor in this film.

I saw it last night & I really loved it (same with the 2 people I was with). Brad Pitt beefed up and he looked soooooooo hot. I had some pleasant dreams last night. ha.
