A man has been jailed for life for killing his black girlfriend and placing her body in front of a shrine to Nazism.

Conrad Stanford, 21, who is also black, was obsessed with Nazis and was suffering from a personality disorder, the Old Bailey was told.

His plea to the manslaughter of fellow student Paula White, 20, in November 2002, on the grounds of diminished responsibility, was accepted at an earlier hearing.

Judge Brian Barker told Stanford: "She was someone who showed you warmth and affection and her worthwhile future has been snatched away.

"This was a frenzied and horrific attack on someone who was completely helpless."

The judge said Stanford's behaviour had been growing "increasingly bizarre" combined with "abnormal beliefs" at the time of the attack.

Judge Barker added: "Everything I have heard about you leads me to believe you are a dangerous young man and are likely to be so for a number of years."

Andrew Bright QC, defending, said: "He feels nothing but loathing and remorse."

Stanford met Paula White at Southgate College, north London, where they were both students.

A year later in November 2002, he attacked her 50 yards from his flat in Manor House, north London, and stabbed her repeatedly in the street.

She was stabbed 67 times in an assault which ended in the defendant dragging the victim back to his flat where he had made a shrine underneath a skull and cross bones and Nazi insignia.
