The Death Penalty

Now, I dont know what the law is in america at the moment, but here in the UK the Death Penalty is abolished. Im not sure what to thinkof this. Im torn between a) an eye for an eye or b) how the hell is a crinimal supposed to be rehabilitated if he is sentenced to death. After all thats one of the main reasons of the prison system.. to rehabilitate people.

Should the death penalty be legal in all countries depending on the crime? Should long term measures of investigation be taken place to enure a guilty man is being executed? What Crimes should warrant a death penalty anyway?

Or are you of the persuasion that a convicted criminal should be punished by spending the rest of his life behind bars? or do you believe every man has the right to a second chance and take advantage of the supposed rehabilitation of the prison system?

No, for the simple fact that there is a chance that an innocent man could die because of it. No ones life not even one is worth risking as far as I am concerned.

Happy Easter!

Some people on death row can be there for 20 years. How fucked up is that. And there are still cases after that long of people being found innocent.

There really is no point into it. An eye for an eye is outdated and no longer serves a point in modern societies.

The death penalty is usually racist and pointless (ie, it doesn't actually deter repeat or serious offenders).

Yep. Also I don't think it is as big a punishment as being sent to jail for all that time. Prison is a worse punishment.

It's hard for me to say that I think the death penalty should be abolished, because I know if someone killed someone close to me, I would that person dead, not living off my tax dollars as they live the rest of their lives in prison. That said, I have a serious philosophical problem with a government having the power to kill its citizens.

i am 100% for it. plus its not like they are put to death right away. im pretty sure they have to appeal at least once so the odds of innocent people getting killed with today's technology is highly unlikely.

I think there is now a way where they can skip the entire appeals process if they want to die ASAP. But even if they skip the appeals process, it takes 6 or 7 years from when the sentence is handed down until the actual execution. I'm for the death penalty. If I were in the convicts shoes, I'd be begging for the death penalty. I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life in prison. That could be 50 or 60 years.
