2004 World Junior Hockey Championships

I don't have much time to post, so I'll be adding more later, thought I'd be the first to make a topic. Anyone see the World Junior Gold Medal game this morning?

U.S. defeats Canada 4-3 to win their first World Junior Gold in history, off of a faulted play from Canada goalie Marc-Andre Fleury who accidentally (it firmly was not his fault) deflected an attempted clearing pass that struck Canada blueliner Braydon Coburn.

Shitty day for Canadian hockey. :x

Yeah, what is with our Canadian teams at the World Juniors? They kick ass right up until the final period of the gold medal game. Three years now with the silver. I just don't understand it. Last year's loss to Russia in Halifax was very disappointing. I think this year tops that disappointment though. 3-1 for Canada after 2 periods and we didn't win the gold

Just unbelievable, aagh.

I watched the final period and a half in the library at school, the librarian hooked up a TV for us to watch it on. Just heartbreaking, I feel so bad for Fleury.

I bet America turns it into another movie.

We have a third period curse. I have always thought Fleury was overrated but I didn't think he would ever screw up that much :x

noone in america may care but nearly everyone in Canada does care.
I couldn't believe what i saw. canada opens a 3-1 lead and take that lead into the 3rd period, fleury had made some nice saves to keep the americans to one goal. then the american players goes in and scores a beauty of a goal to make it 3-2, i figured alright, they're still leading and getting good chances they'll bounce back, then the americans get a bit of a cheapy that rolls over fleury to tie it. at that point you could see the americans pick it up and the canadians collapse. and to cap it all off the winning goal is one of the unluckiest plays i have ever seen. that goal now replaces the tommy salo off the head goal as the worst goal to cost a team the game.

You really are a clueless idiot, that play was not Fleury's fault whatsoever, Coburn was in the wrong place at the wrong time, he should not have been in Fleury's passing lane when he was making a perfectly fine clear. The whole team got cocky, and lazy once the 3rd period opened, a common mistake made by young players, don't single out the goaltender. :x :x

Fleury's taking a lot of heat for the loss but it really was a team effort that cost them the gold. Bad turn overs and poor defence in the third was more to blame than the goaltending. The 2 goals that tied the game were not Fleury's fault.
