Since this busted wrist has left me with little to do at home besides read and write, I'm planning on making a movie run shortly, get a dozen or so. I need some suggestions, can be from any genre, as long as it is a *good* movie. I love great acting (ie. On the Waterfront, The Godfather, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and great storylines. Comedies are good too, as long as it's clever humour, I'm not big into crap like Master of Disguise or The Pest (though I like John Leguizamo).

Anyway, help me out guys/girl (The Dude, I know you're good for at least a few here).

Nice to know that. ;)

Hmmm...this is kind of tough. I don't know if you've seen American Beauty, but that is a wonderful movie. Great acting, a wonderful/sad story. I don't know if you've seen it or not, but that's a definite must see.

There's Scarface. If you like movies like the Godfather, you should like this.

Ditto for Goodfellas and Casino (but being a fan of the Godfather movies, I'm sure you've already seen em ;) ).

A couple other recommendations would be Vanilla Sky and Requiem for a Dream. Both are really kind of weird, but they have some great acting (especially Ellen Burstyn in Requiem).

Pick up any Stanley Kubrick movie. Personal recommendations would be A Clockwork Orange (another weird movie ), The Shining, 2001 (although not too much acting involved, it is a visually entertaining film), and Full Metal Jacket.

Almost any Jack Nicholson film, as well (As Good as It Gets, and for the comedy side, Anger Management or Easy Rider for the druggie/comedy/drama).

That's all I can think of right now. Hope I was able to help.
When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

Barfly is an awesome movie which I tell people to watch all the time (and they never do). It's about Charles Bukowksi who is a famous poet. Anyway, it's just a weird off-beat story with interesting characters all around. Nice one liners, too (though not a comedy).

Cool Hand Luke is really good.

Yeah, Shawshank is great. I've seen it nearly 80 million times. If on the rare chance that Freak (or anyone else) hasn't seen it, I'd check it out.

The Ninth Gate - incredibly underrated.

Rounders - cult classic.

Lord of the Rings - why not?

The Osporns - self explanatory.

I recently saw "A Beautiful Mind", and that is excellent, definitely a must see, looks boring, well it did from what I saw of its clips and stuff, but it is really good.

Yeah, I would definetly say Requiem, although it may just make you more depressed. One of the greatest films IMO.

Excellent guys, I've seen a bunch of the films mentiones, and already have many on my to-see list (including Requiem, Easy Rider), but I added a bunch from this thread too, thanks.

And Shawshank Redemption IS unbelievable.
