| Which athlete, current or all-time, do you think was never anywhere close to as good as the press made them out to be, or they made their own self out to be? My vote for right now goes to Warren Sapp. For all the time he spends in the media spotlight, the guy has really done jack all. He had a great couple of seasons several years back, but he has done absolutely NOTHING in the last three years. He continues to be labeled the premier defensive tackle in football, and considered a "future hall-of-famer" (THAT is absurd), mainly because he runs his mouth 24/7 and pulls stupid stunts. I'm talking stuff like his hit on Chad Clifton, or prancing through the other team's pregame warmups, really unnecessary stuff to keep him in the news. Another football guy (also on the Bucs, funnily enough) is Mike Alstott. He's made the Pro Bowl something like 7 years in a row at fullback, which is complete bullshit -- considering he IS NOT A FULLBACK. He is a running back, he lines up at running back, he runs the football like a running back, and he never ever run blocks. Unfortunately for him, he does not have the hands of a running back, and cannot hold onto the ball worth a damn. The only reason anyone considers him a fullback is because he's big and white. Other athletes maybe worth mentioning are Mark Messier and Latrell Sprewell. There's way more, I can't think though. | |||||||||||||||

| Donovan McNabb just kidding. I'd say Keyshaun, although people have stopped considering him an elite receiver recently (even before the current fiasco). I also agree with you on the Warren Sapp thing. He also takes attention away from his younger and more talented partner at D-Tackle (Anthony McFarland) Funny that we've mentioned three guys on the Bucs already | |||||||||||||||

Weis in the Olympics Some overrated NBA players that come to mind are Jason Richardson, Antoine Walker, and Corey Maggette, who left Duke after his freshman year when he wasnt even a starter!!!

There's way more, I can't think though.[/quote:post_uid0] i don't think messier is over rated at all. sure he played on some awfully good oilers teams, but he has proven himself i believe. the only thing messier is guilty of is not retiring before he probably should have. The hockey player i've always considered over rated is dominik hasek. all he does is flop around.
