Okay, so about three or four months ago, I decided that I needed to pick myself some teams from each of the major professional sports, each of the big four (at least the American big four). All of my friends are sports fanatics, and so I figured if I kept up on at least one team in each sport, every once in a while I could throw out a random comment. So anyway, I picked my teams somewhat randomly, based on some connection I had to them "emotionally", for lack of a better word. Keep in mind, I had no idea which teams were any good in any sport, because I didn't follow sports at all.

So in the NFL, I picked the Bengals, because when I was little, I always thought they had the sweetest helmets (and I still do). So, that probably wasn't the best pick I could have made... but hey, when they win the Super Bowl twenty years from now, I can be one of those fans who can say they've been a fan since they were the worst team in the league.

Then in the NBA, I picked the Cleveland Cavaliers. When I was little, I thought Mark Price was [i:post_uid0]the[/i:post_uid0] man. So I went with them. And while things aren't exactly promising yet, we do have King Lebron (which I knew nothing about at the time), and in a few years, he could be amazing.

Then in the MLB, I picked the Cardinals, because I went to a few Cardinals games when I was younger, and the Oz autographed a ball for me. And I'm fairly happy with that choice, they're a pretty consistent team.

So finally, I picked the Avs for the NHL, because I went to a game there last Christmas and I bought myself a stocking cap. So I figure if I own the hat, I should be cheering for them. And so it seems that they have a pretty freaking amazing offense this year. Granted, they lost Roy, but from what all the sports analysts are saying, their offense might be one of the best assembled in a long time. And they still have Blake among some other on defense.

So anyway, I know there are some hockey fans in here... what do you think the Avs' chances are this year?

What are you looking at? What? You've never seen a kid in a wheelchair? I'll run you over!

God da*n Avalanche! They gave my hawks their first loss of the season last night 5-0. They must pay.

I think most people are favouring the Avs to win the Cup this year, which is fair. If their offense stays healthy, they're gonna be a pretty scary group. Likely not record-breakingly scary, since the NHL has changed, but those two top lines are better than any other top two in a long time. They have great defensemen too. The core of their team is homegrown too, so they should avoid Rangers syndrome.

Seeing that beautiful 6-3 slaughtering of the Avs by my Oilers, adding a couple doubts to some predictions, hah I doubt that but man what a game.

Although a shame to see Philippe Sauve get barraged in his first game (I have some faith in this guy), at least it couldn't have come against a better team.

I know this is off topic but how about the Atlanta Thrashers so far?? They have motivation like I've never seen before. They destroyed my hawks last night, and they are unbeaten as of last night. It's obvious that the tragic loss of Dan Snyder and likewise sad situation with Dany Heatley has lit a fire under these guys.

Do explain?

Otherwise, yeah the Thrashers have become my Eastern Conference team for the time being, would be a great story.

Flames will win the cup. They will be this years Ducks but win it all. And they will play the Rangers :p

Yes I am kidding ;)

Anyway, for some reason I just don't see them winning it. I think it is probably because I still have my doubts about them without Roy. If they still had Roy I would probably say nobody else had a chance this year.

And speaking of the Ducks, boy do they suck so far this year. Last time I checked they still hadn't won a game and were like last overall.

Lost in OT to the Bruins. Ducks are 0-4-0-1. I'm not too surprised myself, I don't see Giguere matching last year, its the traditional post cup run slump.

Speaking of the Bruins, I can't believe there at the top of the Northeast, won't last long though, absolutely horrible defense, and even worse goaltending in Potvin.

Atlanta haven't exactly faced the toughest teams so far, I think this unbeaten thing won't last long. They might place better than last year though.
