| It appears that Arnold has won. Thoughts? CalEphornia is a crazy place. Is this the end of the world or does it just feel like it to me? I have no personal problems with Arnold being govenor, in fact I think he might do a pretty good job, but the thought that a guy who has no experience in politics, government, or leadership can just enter the race via a talk show and then come out the winner seems pretty scary to me. | ||||||||||||||

| Gray Davis had more experience in state government than just about any previous governor, and he turned out to be the worst governor we've ever had. I guess experience doesn't mean all that much. That being said, Arnold has a lot of experience backing him up. The budget of this state is a priority, and Warren Buffet is leading up his financial team and having been working on budget plans for the state since Arnold decided to run. Arnold wasn't my ideal choice for governor, but I think he will be a nice change of pace. Arnold ran as a Republican, but in reality he's more of a Liberatarian. His fiscally conservative yet socially liberal platform pretty much falls in line with the Liberatarians. That's my kind of politician and I think it will work well. The fact that Arnold could come out of nowhere to win this is really a testiment to how badly Californians hate Gray Davis. In case anyone was interested, Larry Flynt beat out both Gary Coleman and Gallager. | ||||||||||||||

| I've been more interested on exactly what Arnie plans on doing more than I've been interested in seeing him win. He's got an economic cesspool on his hands. | ||||||||||||||

| How was Gray Davis such a horrible Governor? I think it was incredibly hard for Davis because California has been in some economic turmoil for quite awhile. Further, nearly every state in this country has economic problems. I bet if we had a recall for them they'd get the boot as well. It's just too bad we can't recall the President. I think Gary Coleman would kick his ass. | ||||||||||||||

| Davis handled the energy crisis terribly, and it's not something he has denied. Davis is a caricature of everything that's wrong with Democrats. After squandering all of the states money and then some, he just kept spending. He has invested nothing in infrastructure and has slashed university funding horribly. Any governor that thinks raising college tuitions over 50% is an acceptable way to generate revenue for the state is a failure. It seems as though he put no thought into generating revenue what so ever. Instead of creating a more hospitable environment for all the businesses that are leaving California, he mindlessly makes the citizens pay more to the state everywhere they look. School tuition, [b:post_uid0]tripling[/b:post_uid0] the car tax, increased sales tax. It's rediculous and Californians are the ones getting screwed. There's a reason why a Democratic governor only has a 25% approval rating in a state that is 60% Democrat. The similarites to California's economy and that national economy are pretty similar on the surface, and I'm sure we're going to have that point driven home hard by Democratic presidential hopefuls in the next year, particularly in California. I find it pretty funny that in the past months liberals - the open minded tolerant folks - having been ripping on Schwarzenegger for having a foreign accent. A little hypocritical I think. | ||||||||||||||

| [quote:post_uid0="DMW"]Schwarzenegger for having a foreign accent. A little hypocritical I think.[/quote:post_uid0] We like our foreigners to speak at least 10% english. Yeah Davis had to go, but Arnold? Come on, that's just stupid. | ||||||||||||||

| Arnold's english is fine. He speaks with a thick accent but he's still a better orator than a lot of politicians, including Bush and Gore in my opinion. Do you honestly have trouble understanding him? Regardless, my point was that I thought it was odd to see liberals mocking his cultural background. Arnold is far from clueless. He's been involved in politics for a long time and is one of the biggest all around success stories is America. He's working closely with former members of Pete Wilson's team and I'm confident that he will be a significant upgrade from Grey Davis. | ||||||||||||||

| He looked stranded without a clue at the debate. The only thing I know is that California is the laughing stock of the midwest. And that's pretty bad. A good Republican friend of mine said today that he has lost all faith in the intelligence of people and their ability to select a proper leader. I was quite happy that I wasn't the only one who felt that way. | ||||||||||||||

| [quote:post_uid0]He looked stranded without a clue at the debate. [/quote:post_uid0] That's your opinion which is all well and good, but it wasn't shared by many people, particularly here in California. For someone that isn't a seasoned debater, as all those other folks were, I felt he held his own pretty well. I wasn't expecting much out of him at the debates, and he exceeded my expectations. He was clear with where he stood on issues (admittadly getting the questions in advance helped that) and he was much more proffesional than Huffington and Bustamante. If you really thought he looked stranded without a clue, then to me it says you hated him as a politician from the get go and were never going to give him a chance. [quote:post_uid0]The only thing I know is that California is the laughing stock of the midwest. And that's pretty bad.[/quote:post_uid0] Umm, cool. From the people that brought us governor Jesse "the Mind" Ventura, governor Schwarnenegger is a joke. Kettle: Hey! Pot: You're black!!!! [/quote:post_uid0]A good Republican friend of mine said today that he has lost all faith in the intelligence of people and their ability to select a proper leader. I was quite happy that I wasn't the only one who felt that way.[quote:post_uid0] I'm sorry you guys feel that way. I'm even more sorry that you guys have detirmined that someone will be a failure as governor before he's even taken office just because he's not who you would've picked. | ||||||||||||||
