Its funny how Racism is a crime yet some of the biggest offenders are the police themselves. I saw a documentary on TV the other night that was quite disturbing. CCTV footage of Black people getting assaulted by police.. Tougher Interrogations on black people and the general handling of an incident if a report is made by a black person.

In the UK it seems Racists disguise themselves as Policemen.

Whats the situation in the states? or anywhere else for that matter.

Racism doesn't exist in the U.S. The black man is treated more than fairly and has priority over the white man when it comes to job opportunities and college scholarships. If any is discriminated against, it's the white man.

Black people are offered scholarships and job opportunaties because statistically they are not on an equal level. Even with all the great advantages they have their still not on an equal level.

Scholarships is an issue which is often blown out of proportion in the United States by whiny pale faced ####s.

Most black people who get scholarships OVER white people are black people with fairly high SAT scores. They are typically a bit lower then white kids, but because of areas where they come from (example, Chicago) they didn't have all the advantages that some of the white kids had. For example, they probably weren't offered the chance to do pre-testing and probably didn't come from a family which helped them prepare for it in the first place. So the line of thought is, a black kid from an area of poverty who scores fairly high on the SATs but not as high as a white kid, is actually, in many instances a lot more intelligent anyway.

The only logical complaint about this is what about the white kid who grew up in poverty? Well, in most cases anyone who grows up in poverty gets a better chance at getting into a school….if his test scores are within reason.

It’s not as if they just look through a field of photos looking for a black face.

If they are so equal then why is it that when you turn on the TV there is always a token black person on the show? Or that it is a big deal when a black person is a high profile leading roll on a sports team and is put in the spotlight because of it? Just ask Rush about that one.

If a persons race is the main focus of who or what he/she is then it always has an underlining of racism. because it is that persons race that is the main issue and focus of their achievments and not their skills alone.

The Met Police and the Home Office in this country have actually admitted to being institutionally racist.

That's not what Affirmative Action says. It's based purely on race, not your socio-economic status. In California we got rid of Affirmative Action a few years ago, but naturally leftists and minority groups are fighting to get it back. Funny thing is that if it came back, according to the letter of the law, steps would have to be taken to get more white people into our top universities. Whites are now officially a minority in California and we are under-represented in our top schools because Asians are way over-represented. I've always felt Affirmative Action was a load of crap and that fighting racism with racism isn't going to solve anything.

Do you think Shaq is in the spotlight because he's black. Or how about Barry Bonds or Emmit Smith? How often is their race mentioned? That's right, virtually never because black people dominating sports (except hockey) is standard. I have no clue where you came up with this idea.

That's a little naive.

You're mostly right, the whole awe of blacks in (most) sports has long since died down. I just felt I should mention that Tiger Woods' race did create a lot of additional press.

Well Shango, I've found something to support your arguement.

Racism exposé rocks U.K. police
BBC film reveals widespread slurs
Eight officers suspended, or have quit

SANDRO CONTENTA
EUROPEAN BUREAU

LONDON—Eight British police officers have either resigned or been suspended after a television documentary secretly filmed disturbing examples of racism among recruits.

The worst incident on the BBC show showed a member of the North Wales Police dressed in an improvised Ku Klux Klan hood, and demonstrating how he wanted to beat up an ethnic minority colleague on the force.

"A Paki born in Britain is still a f----- Paki," Constable Robert Pulling then says, captured by a hidden camera and microphone.

The documentary, filmed by an undercover reporter who spent five months working as a trainee and two months as a police officer in northern England, shook forces throughout the country.

But ethnic minority police officers and anti-racism groups saw the documentary as further evidence of a deep-rooted racism that has long plagued police forces in England and Wales.

"It's no surprise to us and our members, who have had to deal with that sort of racist bigotry in the past, and to this very day," said Leroy Logan, a London police officer and head of the Metropolitan Black Police Association.

"We know that the contamination is not just at the lower ranks, it's throughout the organization, right up to the most senior levels," Logan said in an interview yesterday.

Logan's organization is holding a demonstration in London next month to demand a public inquiry into police racism.

The documentary, called The Secret Policeman, was broadcast Tuesday night, and by yesterday afternoon, five police officers had resigned and three others were suspended. They worked in the Greater Manchester, Cheshire and North Wales forces.

The men were heard using the words "*****" and "Paki" on a regular basis. But Pulling's comments were especially disturbing.

In the documentary, undercover reporter Mark Daly filmed Pulling admitting being racist and having voted for the xenophobic British National Party.

He then said he would kill an Asian person "if I could get away with it," and added that Hitler had the "right ideas."

Home Secretary David Blunkett, who oversees police forces in England and Wales, described the racism in the documentary as "horrendous" and called for better training and screening of recruits.

Said Trevor Philip, the government-appointed Commissioner for Racial Equality: "This is not just a matter of a few recruits who can be trained out of their behaviour. This shows a pattern of behaviour which is widespread, and though officially condemned, is tacitly condoned by their peers."

At a news conference yesterday, North Wales Deputy Chief Constable Clive Wolfendale said the program had made him feel "physically sick."

"Pulling has shamed his colleagues, his uniform and the service. He is a disgrace," he said. . Pulling was the first officer to resign.

BBC reporter Daly gathered most of his material as a recruit at the Police National Training Centre in Warrington, Cheshire, where trainees spend 15 weeks.

Said Daly: "The extremity of some of the racism I encountered from these recruits beggared belief."

"The idea that white and Asian members of the public should be treated differently because of their colour was not only acceptable for some, but preferable. I had become a friend to these men. They trusted me with their views. And they believed I was one of them."

Daly, 28, was arrested last August after police figured out he was an undercover reporter. He faces charges of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception and damaging police property.

The racist incidents in the documentary were revealed as police forces in England and Wales are conducting major recruitment drives.

Britain's top police officer, Metropolitan Police Commissioner John Stevens, said he plans to plant informers in training classrooms to report racist behaviour to authorities.

By the end of the day, police chiefs from across England and Wales had vowed to root out racism, firing any offending officers. But ethnic minority groups say they've heard it all before.

Police race relations practices in Britain became the focus of public debate in 1998, when a bungled investigation into the murder of a black teenager, Stephen Lawrence, led to charges of racism.

Pulling was also recorded insulting Lawrence, saying he had deserved to die and referring to his parents as "spongers."

In 1999, a government appointed inquiry recommended significant reforms in police practices, but a recent Home Office report made clear those reforms have yet to take root.

The report found that black people are eight times more likely to be stopped and searched by police than white people in England and Wales.

According to the report, the rate at which police stopped black people in 2001-2002 was significantly higher than in 2000-2001, despite the fact that 90,000 police officers and civilian staff have received race relations training during the past three years.

The government report also found that blacks and ethnic minorities had worse experiences than whites in almost all levels of the criminal justice system, and were greatly over-represented in jails.
