I didn't say sex offenders should be burnt.

You don't know a whole lot about prison system. My uncle worked at one of the maximum security prisons here in Manitoba. Sex offenders really don't get much done to them there. If it's child sex offenders & other prison mates know, then, yes, they are subject to abuse. However, rapists generally are left alone.

A torture of some sort should be inflicted so that they can have some sort of remote idea of what they really did to their victims.

How interesting, my uncle is a guard at one of the huge prisons just outside of Toronto. I've had this discussion with him before, and he said that rapists receive far less respect from the other inmates than any other convicts. That means a lot of cornholing (torture).

I'm curious, what kind of torture are you talking about? It still seems like a pretty outdated ritual to me.

People have been saying that if they're 100% sure that they should be able to recieve it. The thing is, if someone is convicted of a crime it's assumed that the judge/jury was 100% sure that they did it. That's not really the case, but it's the way it's supposed to work. People don't go to jail because the jury decided there was a 69% chance of them doing it. It's all or nothing.

Even so, there have been several mistakes and people sent to prison for a crime they didn't even commit. Years later, they were found innocent. Now, if the death penalty had existed that person would have been killed...an innocent person would be killed for a crime they had absolutely nothing to do with.

Torturing them just lowers you to their level, and you're no better.

But what I'm saying is that we can't say "if they're 100% sure then it's ok", due to the fact that in being found guilty they are assumed to be 100% sure.

Example, a judge can't say, "We're not completely sure you did it, so we won't kill you, but we're still sending you to jail." If they're not completely sure that you committed the crime (I did) then under the way our justice system works in theory is that you don't go to jail.

It's not a perfect system, but it's the best one we've got.

Child murderers should be tortured for hours and then left for dead. If I was ever convicted of murder, I'd rather die by lethal injection than rot in prison for the rest of my life.

That's the thing, it's more punishment for them to suffer in prison than to just be killed. That's way too easy for them.
