The general public over here in the UK have pretty much turned their backs on Tony Blair, unless he can come up with those elusive WMDs. But its a sad fact that he is going to get re-elected in the next election.. but only because the Conservative Party are in such a disarray at the moment, and the other party, The Liberal Democrats have never really had a fighting chance. So unfortunately we will get another term of Blair due to lack of opposition.

Whats the situation out in the states? what are the opinion polls on George Bush? and more importantly.. will he see another term of office if those elusive WMD's are not found?

I dont follow politics too closely, but i dont think Bush is on the path to being re-elected. But it has more to do with the economy than the war. Bush inherited a HUGE budget surplus, and has since squandered it, leading to the biggest budget deficit ever. The U.S. economy is going through one of its longest periods of stagnation ever. if i remember correctly, Bush's approval rating has been slipping steadily since the end of the war

The one thing that Bush has going for him is that it seems like the Democratic candidates all seem to be nobodies

yeah, but the economy was in the shitter for over two years before the war started. and some people believe the war was just an excuse to jumpstart the economy, as war tends to drive economic growth.

This seems like it might be coming to fruition though, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (our major stock market index) just hit a 14-month high, and the NASDAQ (the exchange which deals primarily with technology stocks) recently hit a 16-month high. the prospects for an economic recovery look better than they have anytime recently. So, maybe the war actually was good for the economy, like other wars have been in the past

War creates shitloads of employment and shitloads of spending, which boosts the economy. It's a case of spending money to make money.

Well, war sure as hell didn't help the economy out this time....

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
Luke 21:20-28

Maybe because Bush hasn't even had a glance at the economy since this whole thing started.
