The lines between confidence, pride and downright arrogance have been so blurred by this conversation that it is impossible to continue speaking about it in any sort of logical sense.

Simon, I think the part that you are missing is that by thinking of where you are from as "special" you are putting it on a platform above all other things.

Think of it like sports. You take pride in the Red Sox but hate the Yankees. It wouldn't matter what the Yankees did, you would always hate them.

Now, thats a fine attitude to have if you are 10 but as we grow up in the real world pride becomes a silly device.

All major religions are against pride for a reason: because it's unhelpful to the evolution of man, it limits their ability of reaching ultimacy.

Seriously, enough of this foolish topic.

Miakal, yes i am a huge [b:post_uid0]fan[/b:post_uid0] of the Red Sox and yes our rivals are the Yankees. But do and most people hate them? Not likely. If asked on a street corner after getting out of the game half drunk (ok fully drunk) if we hate the Yankees then people would probably say yes. But in all reality the people are just saying it to say it. No one ever really means that.

But in all reality hate is way to strong of a word. I dont hate the Yankees. I dont want their inflated payrolls and egos to win again. Obviously, like Sader said, this line is getting so blurred that anyones opinion can be twisted around so that it makes sense for their case.

Hate is a word that should be reserved for people that murder people, kidnap children or any other type of horrible crime against man.

Do I hate the guy that killed some child. Hell yes I do.

Do I hate the Yankees if they win the AL East? No.


Please see my previous posts about pride so I dont have to explain myself again. Most of you are obviously either just arguing to be annoying or you really think your correct.


P.S. I called Bike out on why pride was a bad thing and although it took some two days to answer, that was cool and I respected his opinion on the matter. I dont think he is 100% right, but now I can at least see where he is coming from.
