Rep Power: 7 ![]() | [quote:post_uid0]Regardless of why religion is created, it does help people and society out a great deal. Studies have proven that those who are religious live longer than those who are not. Religious experience, such as prayer or meditation, activates a part of the brain and stimulates unique feelings. This activation proves that religion isn't just a tool, it's a part of human evolution. Life can be as meaningful or meaningless as you want it to be, it's up to your own experience.[/quote:post_uid0] Well put, Mikey, well put. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | My religious experience is having an orgasm... ;) *lol* j/k Seriously though, when I have meditated, I've had some pretty cool & interesting experiences. I don't really know if that would make one live longer (why would anyone want to?) but it's something interesting nonetheless. : : |

Rep Power: 8 ![]() | God was created by man to explain sh*t that we don't understand. I don't see anything wrong with religion, but the Muslim religion needs to be eradicated. Muslims blame all of their sins on their religion. So if we just got rid of their religion, they wouldn't have any excuses. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | To be honest - I'm not sure, but man is probably a lot more intelligent nowadays than 1000 years ago, a lot of scientific discoverys and equiptment weren't around then, and a god could have been a story that they came up with and believed in to explain things like how the world and life came to be, and things like that, and different religions could be different peoples spin on stories. However, I remain open minded. If you want to believe, fair enough, if you don't, same again, fair enough. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | I know that religion is a great comfort and sanctuary for people... but on the other hand it can prevent them from doing things they might otherwise want to do. Alot of christians seem to spend their life trying to please god. They blame themselves for their shortcomings and thank god for their successes and achievements. They spend their lives trying to please god in the hope of having a better after life. Me however, I can blame everyone but myself if something goes wrong.. I can take credit for my own achievements and successes and Im not worried about upsetting god and thus ruining my afterlife because I dont believe in one. At least I can live for today and f*ck tomorrow. At least I can stand up and be proud of my achievments. At least I can thank myself for putting food on the table which was payed for with my hard earned money. Are you sure religion is that great a comfort to people if all it seems to do is hold people back in the vein hope of a front row seat in heaven? And even If its all true and I went to hell.. Why would Satan punish me for not believing in god?. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Well it was very very difficult. Mainly because of the Burden of Proof. My Tutor was a Christian and demanded some proof to back up my claims (Funny, considering he has invested his life in something that hasnt been proven). And even if I had stone solid proof.. im sure that it would have been instantly dismissed, or credited to god. Im not expecting good results. Not that there was a problem with my work.. just a cunt of a tutor who didnt like his ideals challenged. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Well the Bible has enough random quotes in it that could be interpreted in a variety of manners. We had a rather robust class on the New Testament that discussed Jesus in a historical rather than theological context and we spent a decent amount of time picking apart hypocritical sections of the Bible. The problem is that you bit off more than you could chew - you could've put together a solid construct by tracing the institutionalization of religion into political moralism and thought control, but you'd have to have several instances of specific instances throughout history to provide consistency. That'd take a lot of friggin research, if you ask me, but it'd be a pretty cool thesis. |
