Ive seen thousands of horror movies. very few of them actually scared me.. and modern horror films scare me even less. But a few films stick out that have managed to scare me in the past

The Entity
Its what you can't see is what frightens you, coupled with that well timed thumping soundtrack

Screamtime
A horror anthololgy of stories, two of them are shÃ*t, but one story seriously disturbed me. Great camerawork on this one and some genuinely terrifying scenes. It even scares the hell out of me on repeat viewings

The Beyond
One of the classic horror movies from years gone by. Great special effects for its day, great story, ample gore, plenty of jumpy bits and some bizarre scenes add up to a great horror film.

Those are the main ones that stick out for me. However Screamtime is the only one that continues to scare me now.

What films have scared you in the past? and do any of them still scare you now?

I looooves da scary movies. Very few scare me as well, but I don't think that's as important as being entertained (i.e. Freddy and Jason don't scare me anymore, but I still enjoy seeing them kill shitloads of people and even each other ).

As far as genuine scares go, I'd have to say:

The Exorcist: A lot of kids my age don't think this is scary, but I still find it to be, and also a very disturbing movie.

The Ring: This is really the only recent movie to scare me. I truthfully don't care for the Japanese version, but the American version is great and very creepy.

The Shining (1980): All I have to say is: TWO DEAD GIRLS STANDING IN A HALLWAY. That scene will forever creep me out.

That's all I can really think of right now that really scare me. If I were to write a list of scary movies that I liked and am entertained by, we'd probably have a list of over a hundred movies, and I just ain't gonna type that much!

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

I don't know what it was about "Wrong Turn" but man it creeped me out. The acting of horror just seemed real and the one scene where they discover all the vehicles added a nice touch.

There was another movie that I saw when I was a kid about a guy cutting off womens heads and the head flew toward the tv after he chopped it off. It has stuck in my head for over 20 years. I can't remember the name or what most of it was about, but I do remember kids were friends with the guy and trying to get him to stop or something. Anyone know what movie it is? I can still see the head flying toward the screen lol.

Im a firm believer that the mystique surrounding The Exorcist has somehow diminished its shock value. It was banned for years for its subject matter and was talked about for decades.. People who havent seen it yet and want to see it have this picture in their minds that its going to be one of the most terrifying experiences in cinema history.. and will no doubt be a little let down when they get around to seeing it.

Personally i found The Exorcist III to be a much better film.

Part 2?! ???

Well...whatever floats your boat. I personally found the second to be the worst in the series. Parts 1, and 3-8 (F vs. J) are the good ones IMO.

Papa Shongo,

While I don't agree that the third Exorcist is better over the original, I will agree that is a GREAT film, especially when compared to that travesty known as Exorcist II: The Heretic. Exorcist III is very underrated.

FYI...They're making an Exorcist prequel. You can check out this movie site: www.tribute.ca and go to the section called in production. There's a write up about it.

The Exorcist, the first two times I saw it.

Um, I dunno what else. Red Dragon scared me the first time I watched it.
