| taken from: Gamesradar says 3D smells Obscure silicon-based rumblings finally reveal Sony's launch date once and for all. Ish... At a Japanese semiconductor trade event held in Yokohama city, Sony have today announced that the 'Cell' chip will go into mass production during the latter half of 2005. The relevance being, if you didn't know, that Cell is the newly designed microprocessor for PS3. It had been previously reported that the new PS3 chip would go into production towards the end of 2004. This latest news puts the PS3 back a year on that timetable, meaning the machine should be available to punters in 2006 - Sony's original forecast for their follow-up to PS2. | |||||||||||||||
