Rep Power: 15 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Living At Home With The Parents Dear Abby, When do you draw the line for living at Home with the Parents? I currently do, but it bugs the livin crap outta me. I go to school, have a job and what not but it makes me feel like im not following the proper ways of a 23 year old normal person. Maybe its because all other people that are 23 years old are living by themselves, maybe its because of my im beating the crap outta myself for it....I don't know....When do you Draw the Line? Share you experinces Monks.

It's hard to get a decent job, and who is going to put a payment on a house unless they are happily settled, which seems to take longer in life in this generation. My brother is 23, lives in my parent's house, and has no intention of moving out anytime soon. Same goes for his friends. Im still have 4 more years left in my degree, but I'm more or less guaranteed a teaching job. So the day I get my first pay check, I'm moving out. I love my parents dearly, but I need my own space.

I stayed at home until I was 24 as I pretty much had the run of the house upstairs, had a cool relationship with my Dad and his fiancee, they did everything for me (dinner on the table when I got home, pick me up from the station if I'd been drinking after work, washing, ironing.....all that jazz) plus they took just £100 per month off me (£50 of which they invested for me anyway!). I have never had so much disposable cash in all my life....it was extremely sweet. Of course, I used to get a little stick from contemparies, but you can soon shut them up when you mention the hovel bedsit they are living in and paying £500 per month for the priveledge of doing so and eating out of the cheap end of take away joints every night. Plus don't forget to remind them when you're down the pub that they have to rush home to iron a clean shirt for the morning. Oh and they don't have any milk in the fridge so pop into the 7-11 on the way won't you!! Of course, if your parents are giving you no space and a shitty deal then move out, but anyone that has it cushy at home should just stay there. No, not until you're 40 you saddo freak but enjoy it while you can. Once you move out you've got years of work ahead of you!!

Rep Power: 78 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, my parents are divorced and have been for some time. My mother lives about 30 minutes from where I grew up and my father still lives in the other town. I guess you could say I live with both of them. I moved out for a while and lived with one of my good friends for almost a year and it was a blast. But then he and his bitchy girlfriend and her kid all moved in together so instead of me finding an apartment for myself, I just decided I'd live between both my parent's houses. I have a room at each house, I go to school, I go to work, and I try to go out as much as possible, plus they work and go out, so we don't see eachother much at all. I definitely have my own space and I don't plan on moving out until I'm done with school.

Plus I don't have to pay rent and they do everything for me like clean and wash my clothes lol. I think it's better to wait until your settled with a decent job that you know will pay your bills that way you don't move up and get in such a financial mess that you have to move back in with them when your in your late 20's and have to start all over.

They pretty much leave me to myself and i do the same for them. If i have the money i obviously pay my way which helps them out. I love living at home as i have my own room with all i need and if i'm ever in a bad way they are there to support me so its all good.

Over the summer I was back home with my parents and for the most part hated it. After Uni I'll probably have to move back in with them for a while, but at the first opportunity I'm gunna try and move out.

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | i did have my own home. but me and my ex husband divorced i had no where to go he threw me and our autistic son out with nothing but the clothes on our backs. mom & dad let us stay here for hardly any money at all. i do all the housework and have dinner ready when they get home from work. in my case i would be homeless without them. they said we can stay as long as we want kind of hard being just about 34 and having to live with your parents but i have no choice. thank goodness for them though.
