My exboyfriend called me out of the blue today and asked me to go out tonight, claiming he has a birthday present for me. I haven't seen him in a over a year, and haven't talked in months.

Let me ask you guys this? Is my present sex?

Cause I'm not going out with him if the present is sex. I want an actual present.

Nah, I wouldn't think it'd have anything to do with sex, unless of course you gave it up.. he'd obviously take it.

It's a plan for him to hook back up with you. Maybe he misses you and this is his way of trying to get his foot back in the door, ya know?

Wow seems like that time of the month to me, (could be your excuse). I think the reason he wants to meet either way is to hint at getting back together either way so it really depends how you feel about him. I think he'd have asked out straight if the "present" was a booty call. I mean how dumb would he look if you turned up and asked what it was after telling him something like you have another fella?

I'm just sort of mistrusting of him. He dumped me out of the blue, and then strung me along for a little while. Screwed me up pretty bad. He is basically the reason I no longer date. That and I can't be bothered to commit. But mainly I don't like getting hurt in relationships.

He knows I won't sleep with him. I am kind of curious as to what's going on.

I'd advise you to go just to see what the dude's really up to... It seems to me like he wants you back. He probably took a year and realised that he fucked up and should have kept you..

You're right though in not trusting him. Sounds like a bit of a dick.

Maybe he just wants to get back in contact with you and be friends, and needs an ice breaker to get talking to you? Hence the present idea.

I've got an ex girlfriend who I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. We haven't seen or spoken to each other in nearly 2 years, but I miss her as a friend. We've both moved in different directions, and I don't even know where she is these days. So maybe he's the same but wants to get back in contact with you before it's too late?

There's no harm in just meeting up with him and seeing what he wants. As JC said, have a back up plan so if you don't like the situation you've got an easy get out.
