So what are your thoughts on President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize?
I honestly can't believe Obama won it. I was watching Glenn Beck yesterday for some lulz and when I heard it I just started laughing. I thought it was some sort of joke, but apparently not. Don't get me wrong, I really like the guy and I voted for him as well, but I don't understand what he's done to deserve it. As expected, the Right had a shitstorm, but unexpectedly (at least to me), the Left poked fun at the right and praised Obama.
While I consider myself Independent---as I have political ideals ranging from Libertarianism all the way to Socialism---I'm definitely more Liberal than I am Conservative. And I just can't help but wonder what in the hell happened to the Left's standards and beliefs. I don't understand how the Left was giving Bush so much flack for the war in Iraq but the issue goes completely unnoticed in this administration. What about other issues such as rights for homosexuals (and I consider it the utmost bullshit that Don't Ask-Don't Tell is STILL in place) or humanitarian conflicts around the world?
I don't understand how an award that is given to people for peace, humanitarianism, and scientific breakthroughs can be given to this president. Apparently it's because he's been more diplomatic and open to the rest of the world. If that's the case, I'm sure there are more deserving world leaders that would qualify for that criteria.
Blah. If I were president I would not accept the award until I resolved some of these issues. Then again, I would have tried to get some of these things done as quickly as possible instead of delaying for pointless fucking bipartisanship and pretentious dinner parties. I would have lifted Don't Ask-Don't Tell the first day of my presidency. How it's still in place is a crime and I cannot comprehend why the homosexual community it letting it go by practically unnoticed.

He basically won it because he was the first black president. The guy isn't a politician really, he is just a pop icon figure and this further proves it. The guy got an award for putting effort forth on changing things. But, I didn't vote for him, so if he changes things too much I'm not to blame.

He has been mending a lot of relationships with other countries that George W. Bush had alienated but I don't think it was enough to get the Nobel Peace prize just yet...

CALL me Mr Picky here. But this Nobel Peace Prize. Shouldn't it go to someone who isn't the leader of a country at war?
Or has Barack Obama simply won it for not being George Bush?
As much as I support the guy there's absolutely no evidence of him having brought about peace anywhere yet.
In fact, he's talking about sending MORE troops to Afghanistan as his nation maintains its record of having been on someone else's territory without invitation for almost every year since their debut in a naval engagement with France in 1798.
Since the end of the Second World War alone, they've been in Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Lebanon, Grenada, Iraq, Panama, Colombia, Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, Afghanistan again, and Iraq again.
When he breaks that sequence and gives us a decade when the Yanks keep their hands to themselves, THEN we can call him a peacemaker.
Until then, though... well, we're stuck in this strange parallel universe where, on the same day as Obama was being feted, the Archbishop of Canterbury was being slated for using a memorial service to question whether the war in Iraq was a good idea.
Again, call me picky. But isn't that more the kind of talk that should be rewarded with a prize?

Listen Crest, why don't you just shut the fuck up. Ever since Obama was elected I no longer have to worry about my rent, or mortgage. His constant appearances on magazine covers has also cured my erectile dysfunction.
