I was trying to get to sleep last night, my family is away so i'm staying at home on my own for a few days, and I kept hearing banging noises coming from the living room downstairs. I just put the blame on the dogs and went back to bed, needless to say I got up this morning and everything was fine and dandy. But not everyone's like that, if you hear something go bump in the night, do you blame it on your pets? Grab the nearest harmful object, and check whatever it is, out? Think nothing of it and go back to sleep? Or do you just assume it's a member of your family stumbling as they make their way to the bathroom in the dark?

I get creeped out very easily so if I hear one thing, I immediately think of the worst case scenario and chances are, I probably won't get to sleep that night. I usually listen to my iPod to drown out any sounds that may terrify me, but somehow I hear things. I think it's my mind playing tricks on me most of the time. I worry myself to death.

It depends. The animals in my house can make noises so I know what they are, but if I hear something unusual, then I stop and listen to see if I hear it again. If I don't, I ignore it. If I do, I go investigate just in case.

I usually sleep during the day when I actually sleep. However, if I hear a noise that I think has a reasonable explanation for existing I usually just ignore it and go to sleep. If I can't put my finger on the noise I may either wait a second and listen for another sound or just get up and go check on what caused the noise. It usually depends on how tired or lazy I am at that particular moment.
I always sleep with a tv and a fan on so I don't hear many noises.
If I hear my dogs barking more than normal I usually get up and go outside to check it out.

When I hear weird noises I tend to just put it down to next door. I live in a terraced house so we have neighbours on either side. You can often hear the kids screaming and running around on the right side so I tend to just ignore most.
But no way would I get up and investigate, lol, you never know what it might be. Im a wuss.

Before my dog passed away a few weeks ago I used to be quite measured in my response to noises and knocks during the evening...I didn't think much of them until a few nights ago when my dogs old ball somehow ended up on the landing outside my room after I heard a jingling noise. I thought it was freaky at the time but at least I know my dog is still around.
My house is right next to a motorway as well so that adds to the bumps and noises.
My window is open and fan is on while I'm sleeping, so if I do hear noises they're usually ones I'm acquainted with and won't give me much of a bother.
And if it's Ken trying to rob my place, well I guess he can just have his way with poor old me.

I just ignore them tbh, when my mum is in the house we have an alarm system that goes on at night but my parents are in the Algarve for a week and I'm not bothering with it and I haven't when they have been away in the past. I lock the door but I can't do much more than that, I think I'm going to hear if somone gets through a locked door.
