AP sources: Russian subs patrolling off East Coast
WASHINGTON – Two nuclear-powered Russian attack submarines have been patrolling in international waters off the East Coast for several days, in activity reminiscent of the Cold War, defense officials said Tuesday.
U.S. Northern Command would not comment on the Russian submarines' movement. But in a prepared statement, Northern Command spokesman Michael Kucharek acknowledged the patrols and said the U.S. has been monitoring the two submarines.
Two senior U.S. officials, however, said the submarines had been patrolling several hundred miles off the coast and so far had done nothing to provoke U.S. military concerns. The officials provided details on condition of anonymity in order to discuss intelligence reports.
The statement issued by Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command said, "We have been monitoring them during transit and recognize the right of all nations to exercise freedom of navigation in international waters according to international law."
So what do you think of this? This is the first time this has happened since the Cold War ended. Thoughts?

I'm not surprised. There seems to be some tense relations between the US and Russia right now, though Canada also seems to have some tense relations with Russia right now as well.
It's time for Obama to determine their position, and we'll then take the necessary action.
Well, we can take down Russia if they attempt to do anything to the U.S. All I have to say to Russia, is bring it on. Nothing you can do can stop America. We even have Canada to back us up too. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I don't disagree with you in that we could win the war. But a win would be relatively unimportant as the loss of life would be huge.
Any sort of military action against us by Russia would be very damaging considering how thin our military is spread these days.
We have a lot of manpower and resources the Middle East right now.
Like Ino said there would be a tremendous loss of life.

I could be mistaken but I thought Obama had started on a new leaf with the Kremlin? So i don't see really how this could be alarming atm
It isn't really alarming. It does kind of raise an eyebrow though since there haven't been Russian subs this close to the U.S. since Cold War days.
