Working at a Grocery store is pretty bad, especially when you're up front. We have a package store, a deli, a bakery, etc. so whenever something they did wrong happens the customer gets mad at us. Never mind when we buy food and sell it then its bad and WE get attitude despite us not making it and it not being past the expiration date.
People suck.
My mum works in the UK part of Wal Mart (ASDA) and she was telling me today that one of her workmates got abused by someone who was a complete dumbass.
Certain ham was 68p for 100g and the bloke wanted 4 slices but for 68p, they couldn't get through to him that 4 slices didn't = 100g and when the woman accidentally picked up the wrong ham, he called her stupid. Really upset her cos she was just doing her job. Mum came out of the chiller in the midst of it and basically went "sorry Sir, we're no longer going to serve you, please move away from the counter or security will be called".
Retail chains such as pharmacy's and grocerie stores should offer supreme mental health benefits. It's completely stressing and depressing dealing with the mindless pions who think they're holier than thou when they shop. Guess what you pricks, the customer isn't always right, now get out of my line and give suicide a thought. Sorry, bad week...

I work at DG. I know exactly what you are talking about. I applied for a job at a jail because it would actually be less stressful than retail. That says it all right there.
I guess I'm too chill. I don't usually get too stressed out by people. If someone is being dumb, I ask them to explain in really simple terms. If I still don't get it, I ask them to draw me a picture. Eventually I understand, and then I draw them a picture of why they're wrong. If we're having a debate at work over the direction we need to take with a product, we gather the stats, then reconvene and carry on. Usually when that happens it turns out that both sides are right on certain things, and the problem is resolved.
Y'all need to just chill though - don't take a stupid person personal. Take a deep breath, listen to what they're saying, and then straighten it out.

Kind of hard to do when you have someone who comes out in public once a month to shop and then yells at you and threatens to report you to the better business bureau because something said it was a $1 on the shelf and it rings up $1.05 on the register.

Stupidness like that should not be tolerated.
While I agree, but they have a legitimate concern. Why did it ring up as $1.05? Was it a sales tax?
If so, explain that to them. Tell them DG only charges them the $1; it's the state that charges them the other $.05.

No. What happens sometimes is DG puts a price increase through. They automatically update the registers from the home office to ring up to the new price. We have to manually change the price on the shelf. They don't get the message to us on time sometimes and therefore the price difference.
DG is completely in the wrong but they still don't have to act like that. It isn't MY fault.

I know it's only a dollar, but I would be concerned about false advertisement.
How much power do you have as a manager? Can you manually adjust the price back to $1.00?
