I've never put much thought into inventing something. Everything that has always seemed like a good idea to me has already been done. I guess I'm unoriginal.

My dad invented car roof boxes, and somebody stole the idea.
Long before those aerodynamic platic roof boxes started cropping up for sale, my dad made a wooden one to put our luggage in on holidays to Cornwall. He never really thought it was a marketable idea or anything, because it was pretty much just a plywood cuboid painted black. A few years later they popped up for sale, so we think that somebody has seen it as we drove down the motorway, deveolped it, and made a fortune off it. If he'd have had the idea to patent it, we could have been millionaires by now.

I WTF'd eight years or so ago, when I saw my karate instructor on the Gadget Show or something like that, talking about some box he invented with special thin padding that stops things from breaking when dropped from a large height. He put some wine bottles inside, dropped them from a balcony and they were fine.
I never did find out if he made any money off that.

I think a lawn mower that is powered by the sun would be good. Using Solar Panels obv, it'd be good just because we (well not me personally but other people I know), only mow the lawn when it's sunny outside, it'd just be really efficient. But knowing this world, it's probably already invented.
