The author Terry Pratchett is lending his support to a bill going through the House of Lords to legalise assisted suicide in England.
The Wiltshire-based science fiction writer has Alzheimer's Disease.
In 2006, retired doctor Anne Turner travelled with her family from Bath to Switzerland to end her life at an assisted suicide clinic in Zurich.
No-one faced prosecution over that action. Sir Terry, 61, said no real law would have been contravened.
He told BBC News: "I think it is possible that someone in possession of their faculties who has an incurable disease could actually request death rather than face an unpleasant endgame.
"It seems to me to contravene no real law."
The House of Lords will not vote on the bill until next week. Even then, if they do opt for change, it could be next year before it becomes law.
Well, what are opinions on it?
When a loved one is really suffering and just wants it to end I personally feel that it should be allowed, I mean there is a point where living for some people becomes a worse fate than death right?

To me, it's only in the case where a loved one loses all hope, like you mentioned. I just feel like it's one of those things that will go completely out of hand.

I'm only in favor of this if they actually say under which circumstances they can actually do it. If a person is ill, can't do anything on their own, and their quality of life is so bad, then i'd agree to let them die with dignity and then they can be assisted with suicide. It's about quality not quantity. I know i'd rather have a small number of 'quality' days in my life, then a large quantity of 'bad' days. I don't see the point in keeping someone alive, have them suffer for months, and in the end, the result will still be death. I think its unfair to just give someone medicine and have them wait for death, it's inhumane. I watched my Nan die a long and painful type of cancer, and I think it should be legalized because it's that persons life and they should do what they want with it.

To me if a person is suffering beyond belief, and there is no hope than ya I agree with it. And by suffering I mean physically through some sort of disease, cancer etc.

There'll be no sorrow there, no more burdens to bear,
No more sickness, no more pain, no more parting over there;
And forever I will be with the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

Well.....I resist giving my opinion in a lot of threads so they won't turn into people bashing religion. So I will try to reply and leave religion out of it.
I believe it is morally reprehensible for anyone to willingly assist in the taking of a life under these circumstances.
