Re: Do you have a problem with the Confederate flag?
Well, I live on an island on the west coast of Canada, so when I see rednecks roaring around town with confederate flags hung in the back windshields of their trucks... I consider that racism, yeah. (Or sometimes not even -- just sheer, mindless stupidity.)
Re: Do you have a problem with the Confederate flag?
Yeah, it's definitely racist.
It's a memory of the times of the 1860s and previous years, and, while the flag itself is not disturbing, it carries memories with it that I'm sure plenty of people don't want to remember. Just like in Huck Finn and a bunch of Twain novels, the word '......' is used like 187 times or some shit. Sure, the word is demeaning and racist, but it also carries memories with it and helps you understand the culture better, just like the Confederate flag does. I'm not against absolutely eliminating it, but I'm pretty disturbed by people taking pride in it, after not understanding what it's really about.

Couldnt have said it any better. I live in wisconsin, so there are plenty of wannabe rednecks with that flag hanging off their truck. Those people see the flag as a symbol of rebellion, but it those people are uneducated pricks. It does sicken me to see people pride themsleves in something so blatantly racist.
Re: Do you have a problem with the Confederate flag?
I love the Confederate flag and it has nothing to do with being racist.
I had ancestors who fought for the Confederacy and I see it as a way of honoring them.
Some people who fought for the Confederacy wasn't fighting for slavery. They were fighting for state's rights. The South exercised their right at the time to secede from the Union and the North invaded them. Some Southerners were just fighting for their sovereignity. Abraham Lincoln himself said he would never interfere with slavery. That wasn't why the war was fought. It was fought because they didn't want the South to secede.
I understand why some people think the Confederate flag represents being "racist" because it has been used by some White Supremisist groups. That doesn't mean that the flag itself represents racism. The KKK carries the American flag as well. Why does just the Confederate flag get a bad name?
Also our history books have demonized the Confederacy and the Confederate flag throughout history. I urge everyone to study for themselves what really happened. It sure didn't happen the way our history books say.

But just buckle it in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "couldn’t be done," and you’ll do it.
Re: Do you have a problem with the Confederate flag?
I don't particularly have a problem with it. Represents Southern pride and that's about it to me. I only have a problem with it when Southerners use it as a symbol for racism or when Northerners refer to it as a symbol of racism, because as Dak said, slavery is not the reason why the war was fought.

Because that is what you have been taught to relate it to.
