Do you have a problem with the Confederate flag?

I absolutely do not like that flag. People can justify it all they want, but it is a symbol of hate. And the people I see raising said flag don't really do well to change my perception. It's just like how people try to justify the swastika. Yes maybe centuries ago it was created by a benign Eastern religion, but to today's world it represents one of the worst monsters of all time. The actions of Hitler are NOTHING to brag about.

I think the modern symbolism for most people is independence, ironically enough. It represents the state's right to disagree and exercise the power that they once held. They really don't have as much power as they used to, but it's a way to look mack when the place was a bit more about state autonomy.

I wouldn't get mad over someone who put's in on their vehicle/whatever. I highly doubt that they are trying to support slavery.

The Confederacy obviously left the union because of their views on slavery, but I disagree that the flag itself is a symbol of slavery. It's a symbol of rebellion. Certain states like Georgia and Alabama have recently removed it's likeness from their state flags out of respect for the black community, but you never saw anyone accusing those governors of being racist.

It clearly doesn't offend me because I live in the southern US, I see it all the time, and I'm not black. So my opinion might be a little biased to say the least.

To be fair, if the abolishment of slavery wouldn't have crushed their economy and their way of living, I don't think the south would have had seceded in the first place. Believe it or not, the southerners back then weren't the foul-mouthed drunks who were too lazy to do the work themselves that are depicted in today's media. Not saying what they did was right, but just sayin'.

I live in West Virginia, so we have people with confederate flags out the asshole. I don't think it's racist, persay, I just get pissed when I see it because the south lost. Get over it douches.
