Everyone knows they were screwed over now because our education system finally quit demonizing them. The South and the Confederate flag is still demonized.
I was taught in school the main reason the War was fought was about slavery when that is not even the case.
As long as the U.S. keeps indoctrinating our kids about this it is never going to change.

because they fought to get the truth in, Trust me, I worked with a native american, he bitched about everything lol
You still don't get it.
You are asking us to go and talk to racist groups who have proven that they lack intelligence and get them to quit displaying the Confederate flag. That is impossible.
Getting people in the U.S. to accept that they have been taught and conditioned to believe a falsehood all their lives is a nearly impossible task.
It would be like dropping someone in North Korea and telling them "Ok. Tell these people that Kim Jong Il is in fact not God and America is their friends....."
Not gonna happen.

If it means anything, just reading/listening to your stance and opinions on the flag has made me feel significantly more educated on the matter (in a balanced way, like you're going for), and I don't think it's a stretch to say that if more people tried to educate others the way you're doing, perceptions could change...

Re: Do you have a problem with the Confederate flag?
It makes me feel much better to see that some people are open to discussion on the subject.
I thought people would take a hard line stance and not even consider my point of view.
Maybe it is not an impossible task after all.

Re: Do you have a problem with the Confederate flag?
It's not Dak, I don't think it was long ago that I considered it racist and demeaning, but you swayed me to basically not care about it. But its gonna take some work.

wait are you saying Magic Johnson is black, has AIDS and has it better than ME?
People that hate the Confederate flag because other people tell them it represents racism should form their own opinion and do some research before replying.
I'm a "Northerner", and have lived in Michigan all my life. So, if I was living here during the time when the Confederacy was going strong in the 19th century, I would have been part of the Union that opposed this group. However, asking me now in 2009 what my thoughts are on the Confederate flag being waved now? I do NOT consider it racist.
As Dak alluded to, the Confederacy was more for states right than it was for slavery. History books teach us that the main conflict between the North and the South was the issue of Slavery. That's what shows up primarily in print, but it really wasn't even one of the main issues.
The North believed the government should have the right to govern the states, while the South believed each individual state should govern itself without the nation's government stepping in. So, if you are asking me if I have a problem with the confederate flag, not really...probably because I wasn't even alive in the mid 1800's, so who's really to say what happened then?
There's a pretty decent chance that the reason people are waving it around nowadays is because of their racist beliefs, but back when it mattered, that wasn't the main cause.
Yes, I have a problem with racists, but no I do not have a problem with the Confederate flag.
Whoa whoa whoa ... YES the Confederates were fighting for State Rights ... one right in particular... the right to choose whether to be a slave state or not!
Confederate flag is pathetic, demeaning, and DOES represent racism. While it may not represent that to everyone, that is the role it has taken now in society due to people abusing it.
