Their cockiness is appalling. The last line of the commercial, "The only chapter we're focused on is Chapter 1" is pathetic.
Do they expect me to think that because they're filing bankruptcy they're actually going to create a car that even remotely compares to the product offerings of Toyota, Nissan, Honda, or even Volkswagen? Instead of coming up with witty little lines, like the one highlighted above, they should instead talk about how they're actually going to reinvent their product line.
With GM being an American icon, something that represents all of us Americans, I'm embarrassed and disgusted with their behavior, and would love to see nothing more than GM go out of business. The bailout money, totaling 97.4 billion, should have instead gone to companies like Telsa motors who actually are developing a product for the future.
I actually like their commercial. Letting their customers know that they plan to change their approach to the way they build their cars isnt cocky. The most retarded advert I saw was for Hyundai. At a time where many car companies were saying that they would help pay off cars for 12 months of the buyer lost their job, Hyundai said they would repo your car for 500 bucks.
When you say "compares to Toyota, Nissan..." do you mean price-wise? Because GM could turn out massive piles of crap in quick succession and sell them for $13k too, but we don't want to do that. The American Auto companies have done a good job of dropping the past truth that the Big 3 put out low quality vehicles. Yes, they did that in the 70's and 80's, but our overall quality has improved many times over.
And Terry, I understand you are Tesla's #1 supporter, but that vehicle is just not going to take off in the mainstream. It is simply too expensive to produce, and thus only the wealthy can afford it. The Chevy Volt will outperform the Tesla in most categories when it is released next year.
I can't find the link as youtube is blocked at work, but take a look at the interview Bob Lutz (GM director of product) did on Letterman a few weeks back - he discusses the difference between the Volt and Tesla and why GM could never produce/market a car like the Tesla as it's currently made.

In powertrain, yes. In passenger comfort and appeal, hell no. GM doesn't even come close to comparing the appeal and amenities that the Japanese vehicles offers. The Camry and Accord both sold over 100,000 more than the Impala and all 3 are right in the same price range.

Except Tesla is already going to have a more mature product out in the Telsa Model S, which is going to have a significantly more powerful electrical motor. GM is two years late here, not to mention the Volt is UGLY! The rear of it looks like a freaking Prius.

Did Bob Luts really say that the Corvette is the 100k car people want? The man is delusional, and in an alternate reality than the rest of America, and it's no surprise considering in the same conversation he's talking about owning 2 fighter jets.
