Why are we celebrating the death of so many people? All around this should be a tragedy. The killing of Jews by the Nazi army, the brainwashing of young soldiers by Hitler, the slaughter of people by the allied forces. Yet somehow this turned out to be something to celebrate? Speaking as someone who grew up in Germany, I was taught a much different picture of Hitler and Nazi Germany than most of you. Tell. I'm interested in hearing how he is remembered in Germany. I didn't think it would be much different than anywhere else since the rest of the world helped rebuild Germany after his reign.

And what they did so you could remain free, was kill people. See my point...
Its really not that hard to grasp. Any war, no matter what the reason or the side, is just a sad thing. You can try and sugar coat it anyway you want, but their "bravery and sheer determination" still involved the death of another person by their hands.
Lets see, my post questioning exactly what you are remembering / celebrating compared to "Wow". Yeah, I can see how the two are equally irrelevant. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I don't think a party or something is appropriate. Sparing a thought for all the people that died that day or maybe saluting them with a drink is what I usually do. It's a remembrance, not a celebration.

True.
I certainly wasn't meaning it was a day for streamers and loud music.
It is a solemn day where we should display our flag and remember the sacrifice others endured for our freedom.
