How long will it take for my cat to become a fully indoor cat and not rush out whenever the door is open? I just got a new kitten at 4 months and want to keep it indoors since my last one got run over 3 weeks ago. My 5 year old sister named it Julian. :embarrassed:
Translation: How do I make him scared of the outdoors?
took our first cat about 2/3 years to REALLY stop trying to race out. However she rarely did it in Winter after she raced out when my dad got home and my dad locked her outside over night.

wait are you saying Magic Johnson is black, has AIDS and has it better than ME?
My family has two cats, one after a few years just gave up while the other is young and keeps racing out. One time it ran out in snow and got soaked so it doesn't run out nearly as much.

Well, it did get out today out the window but it didn't get the greatest of welcomes to the outside world when my pitbull/sheperd X greeted it LOL. I'll be trying my best to keep him inside till he does not want to go outside anymore. The only bad thing is cleaning the litterbox. Fill its head with propaganda.
Or you could just stop refusing the cat entry into the outside world due to your own fears, Nazi.

You can't change it's mind. If it wants out, then nothing you do will change that thought
Umm.... der, of course you can change its mind!
Like dogs, cats can easily be trained with the right training. The idea is you have to reward not wanting to go out and/or punish if it does. Cats are smarter than people like to think. The kitten here KNOWS what time it needs to be fed. She's always accurate. Soon she hears the door slam when the sister comes home, meow meow because she's conditioned that the door slam = food.
As evidenced in this thread, cats that got wet going outside were more likely to stay in so it could be dry because they learned if going outside meant getting wet, they wouldn't go outside again. So his cat just needs to get wet, hear a lawn mower outside to want to stay inside.... he just has to condition the cat somehow. Outside Noise = bad. Inside Quietness = Good. It'll take a while for the cat to learn it, but they do To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. .

Yes, I have a GIF of two women kissing.
Yes, it's hot. Yes it's Megan Fox kissing another woman from Jennifer's Body. Yes, it's hot... owait, I already said that. Yes, I'm aware this makes me sound like a total lesbian. But this scene? UNF.
Right now I have 2 cats and one of them just sits by the door waiting for the winter to end. She can't be stop from going outside. This was a pure indoor cat, but once we moved into the new house (from the apartment), she became an outdoor one. I've done everything from preventing the cat to go out, but nothing works. I've even turned the hose on her and she still doesn't care. I've given up and accepted the fact that she loves to go out and hang with the raccoons. Just dont put a collar on your cat, she could choke on it while climbing a fence or a tree or whatever.

Do you have a reason not to give The Half Boy your vote for the Hall of Fame?
If the cat wants to go out, it's gonna do everything to get out. If something changes it's mind then it'll stop trying. But not every cat stops wanting to leave, even if you spray it, scare it, yell at it or what ever you try to do. Cats are stubborn animals who do what they want, when they want. Hence the reason my chair is shredded to pieces. I've yelled at them, spun the chair while they hung on to the side, sprayed with water, tossed it out of the room. Nothing stops a cats will except the cat
