Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson is poised to join Middlesbrough, skysports.com understands.
The two clubs have concurred on a deal that will net the Championship club in the region of £2million.
Boro had a bid rejected earlier in the week but have now come back with a more agreeable offer.
Skysports.com broke news of Boro's interest in the 23-year-old and the player could now be available to figure in the club's FA Cup tie at Wolves on Saturday.
Boro boss Gareth Southgate has been on the lookout for a midfield ball-winner having never adequately replaced George Boateng and Lee Cattermole, who both quit the club in the summer.
I have seen glimses of young Watson and for a team like Boro I feel that it will be a good acquisition... for now. By that I mean, that if he lives up to his potential he wont be at Boro for long.
I know he is highly rated and remember him being good on an old Football Manager, but I've not seen much of him.
"A few weeks prior to signing with WCW, I witnessed Hogan wrestle Flair on Nitro. Now strictly from a fan perspective, it was very hard to watch. What I witnessed that night was two legends that were shells of their former selves still trying to do it. Watching Hogan & Flair that night just wasn't right. In my opinion the bookers were just exploiting them to try to pop a number. It was a desperate situation and that's exactly the way it came across on TV."

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has admitted defeat in his attempts to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson and expects him to join Wigan.
The 23-year-old underwent a medical with Boro after they had agreed a £2m fee with the London club.
"We think he is joining Wigan," said Southgate. "We are disappointed because we have done a lot of work over a couple of months towards that.
"That's the way it goes sometimes, sometimes you don't get it."
Wigan manager Steve Bruce has seen his transfer kitty swelled by Wilson Palacios' £14m move to Tottenham earlier in the January transfer window.
He has also seen Emile Heskey leave for Aston Villa in a £3.5m deal, while Wigan and Boro have traded strikers with Mido moving to the JJB Stadium on loan and Marlon King going in the opposite direction, also on loan.
What is the world coming to when suddenly a move to Wigan is more attractive than a move to teesside?
Well Boro could seriously go down. Wigan are looking pretty good.
