Portsmouth have signed Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has played only four times for the Reds this season and had been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

"I've known him for a long time - we were together at Arsenal a long, long time ago," Portsmouth boss Tony Adams told the club website.

"He was a very exciting prospect. He's quick and very technically gifted and he can have a go at defenders."
He only wanted to go out on loan because he doesn't want to shut out the potential possibility of his future at Liverpool.

What future? He should have just signed a contract with them.

Nothing more than just above average in my opinion, I dunno why Real Madrid were interested in him but it is a decent signing for Tony Adams. Hope he doesn't have a future at Liverpool to be honest if they are striving to win the league they need a better quality of player than Jermaine Pennant.

When we signed him he had the record stat for crossing which is what we wanted... but that was for the Brum and just didn't happen for us.

He really doesn't have a future at Anfield though.

I doubt Real Madrid were after him. That just sounded like paper talk to me.

As for Pennant, he is a decent acquisition for Portsmouth but was never good enough to play for Liverpool.

No Tom what it was, was the fact that they beleive they have Ronaldo in the summer and wanted Pennant until then and to be honest that is something I would like to see.
