Cristiano Ronaldo has won the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
The Portugal and Manchester United winger completes a clean sweep of football's top individual honors for 2008. He also won the Ballon D'Or as European player of the year and World Soccer magazine's player of the year award.
The result was announced Monday at a ceremony in Zurich. Brazil's Marta won the women's award.

Yeah, I'm glad he got this, he definitely deserves it for the year he had, well the season he had last time around anyways. It was always going to be too hard for him to reenact that mesmerising form so no surprise he hasn't really so far this season.

No one can doubt his contribution last season. Absolutly phenominal. He was one of the biggest reasons United won the League and European Cup. I hope he finds some of that form for the second half of the season, and United will be laughing.
I think anyone who scores 42 goals from the wing deserves this kind of accolade and scoring in the big one (champions league final), it was a phenomenal season but given a choice between him and Messi who I would want in my team I would chose the little Argie every single time.
I know most people who aren't United fans really dislike him, and I'm sure I'm one of many United fans who find him very annoying.
I hate his petulance. The way he's been kicking out at opponents is very childish and will get him in trouble some day, if not by a referee by someone who's willing to kick him back a lot harder.
There's no denying his talents though. He's had the best season a winger (although at times he seems like a forward) is ever likely to have. And I'm glad he's still at United even with his attitude.

its just that he friggin flops ANYTIME somebody ruins by him, and I know that its a part of alot of sports, basketball especially to try and draw penalties. But wtf. It seems like he plays physically against people, and then hits the deck when somebody gives him the slightest of nudges.
Also, I get that he is fantastic at dribbling the ball. He has amazingly quick feet, but does he have to show off every time he gets the ball? Its like he's trying to be a friggin globetrotter every time he gets the ball.

I agree, though he was nowhere near as bad as he was!
