If you dont know, from next season the quota of home grown players increases from 6 to 8. This is one of the more thought out ideas in the UEFA Rule book as it requires four players to have been trained at their present club for 3+ years from the age of 15 - 21.
The other four can be made up from players who have been trained in the same association (IE Same country) or more players from the accademy. The penalties for failing to reach the quota is simply less players in your squad. Each team gets 25 slots, eight of which are taken with this rule. If, somehow, a team doesnt have any players that are eligable they enter the tournament with 17 players.
Liverpool fans seem to be getting worried that this is the reason why Benitez wants Barry & Keane so badly. But not why Crouch seems to be going. Chelsea meanwhile are fucked. They have only one regular first team player who was trained by the club in John Terry. Unless they promote three youngsters to the squad they will be going into the tournament three players short.
Man Utd will soon be in a similar situation of having to promote youngsters as Neville, Giggs & Scholes dont have that long left in them.
Despite all the stick Arsenal get they are probably in the best position with seven players already eligiable from the first team alone. Fabregas, Clichy, Senderos, Bendtner, Traore & Vela all count as club trained. Theo Walcott having been trained at Southampton makes number seven. Aaron Ramsey is already on two years so he will be eligable soon to easily make the eight.
Personally, i cant see any objections to the rule as it doesnt matter what nationality you are, just that you were trained in that country. Anyone care to share their thoughts on the rule?

Man Utd have Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, John o'Shea, Darren Fletcher, Ben Foster and Wes Brown who trained with the club at that age so that just leaves one more slot for players that include Rio Ferdinand, Micheal Carrick and Wayne Rooney so I dont think they have a problem.
Liverpool might struggle a bit, I think only Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have come through their ranks, so a couple of the young players to join them as for the other four they can have Scott Carson, Peter Crouch(if he stays) and Steve Finnan plus stick another youngster in there
Chelsea will struggle the most, they have John Terry and the promising Scott Sinclair so im sure they will put a couple of kids in to fill in the other two slots, as for the other four they have the pick from Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Steve Sidwell(if he stays), Shaun Wright Phillips(if he stays) and Wayne Bridge(if he stays)

I said soon as when Scholes, Giggs & Neville retire. Foster would not count as club trained either as he was over 21 when he joined them. He would qualify for the second four tho. When O'Shea, Fletcher & Brown are the best you can produce, they are not in a good position.

So does that mean if you happen to get someone that played in another country you can't play them?...

To qualify for an English team the player has to have played in England between the ages of 15-21 for three years. His nationality does not matter.
If a club signs a player from Spain for example, they can play but wont count as one of the eight in the 25 man squad. They ca be one of the 17 remaining.

So you dont think United's youth team will produce any more players?
Same with Liverpool(who won the Youth Cup 2 years ago)

I get it kinda...I don't really get why they are doing this. Just let people play the game.
I'm sure the EPL won't admit this publicly, but I think this is just another attempt at narrowing the gap between ManU, L'pool, Chelsea, & Arsenal, and the rest of the league. Clubs outside of the "Big Four" tend to have more native players, and there has long been the perception that clubs with deep pockets such as United can simply buy cup wins by picking up so many high-priced foreign players.
