Simon Katich and Phil Jaques both struck centuries as Australia built up a second innings lead of 365 on the third day of the final Test in Barbados.
Jaques struck a patient 108 and fellow opener Katich finished the day unbeaten on 148, as his fourth Test century helped boost the tourists up to 330-3 at stumps.
An exhibition of upper order batting has all but quashed any hopes West Indies had of levelling the series, and Australia now look firm favourites to clinch the series 2-0.
The 223 opening partnership was eventually broken by Fidel Edwards after a full-length delivery lured Jaques forward and Denesh Ramdin took a regulation catch behind the stumps.
Trademark shots
The dismissal brought captain Ricky Ponting to the crease, and a couple of trademark shots through midwicket showed the Tasmanian was intent on speeding up the run rate after the foundations had been set.
However, after making 39, Ponting could only drag a short ball from Daren Powell straight to substitute fielder Runako Morton at short midwicket.
Despite a negative final session of bowling from West Indies, Katich continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over as out-of-form Mike Hussey scratched around at the other end.
Hussey's dismissal looked inevitable, and the gritty left-hander perished in the closing overs after Sulieman Benn was rewarded for his day of toil with the ball.
Used height
The tall off-spinner used his height to get the ball to bounce sharply and Hussey could only fend the ball to the awaiting Dwayne Bravo at leg slip for 18.
Vice captain Michael Clarke (0 not out) survived the final overs and will rejoin Katich on Sunday as the tourists look to bat the West Indies out of the game.
