Andy Murray overcame injury and a determined Ernests Gulbis to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Artois Championship at Queen's.
The Scot suffered a thumb injury during the opening set and groin and neck injuries in a baseline tumble in the decider but battled on bravely to edge past the Latvian 5-7 6-1 6-4.
"It's the first time on a tennis court I've been worried about getting through uninjured," he said.
"It was so slippy, I was sliding two metres after each shot so I was just happy to come through in the end.
"I'm pretty concerned about it (his thumb) right now. A sprain tends to get worse the next day but I can play through the pain barrier if it's not affecting my grip and as long as the doctor says I'm not going to make it worse."
Early afternoon showers made conditions difficult and forced the players off at 2-2 in the opening set, but play resumed 20 minutes later without the court being covered.
Murray damaged his thumb in a spill during the 11th game, which saw Gulbis claim the first break when the sixth seed double faulted.
The 21-year-old received a medical time-out for treatment but Gulbis was able to hold serve and take the set.
Murray continued to be treated but broke to lead 3-1 in the second set and although needing to save two break points in the next game, managed to hold serve before another break saw him level the match.
