Spain coach Luis Aragones has held clear-the-air talks with striker Fernando Torres.
The Liverpool star was clearly unimpressed at being substituted in the 4-1 victory over Russia on Tuesday night after setting up David Villa's opening goal.
And while Aragones can understand the forward's frustration, he warned he will continue to make decisions which he feels are right for the team.
Villa ran to the bench to celebrate with Torres after completing his hat-trick, while his replacement Cesc Fabregas headed home Spain's late fourth.
Aragones said: "I can understand that a player is annoyed. But that happened to me when I was a player.
"We couldn't leave things as they were, but these are questions which remain an internal matter and I am not going to say more about them."
More strength
The Spain coach added: "I had to take someone off because we needed more insurance in the centre of the field.
"Torres has played a long, tough season and will be a very important player for us but in this moment we needed more strength in the centre of the pitch.
"Their two midfielders, the 11 (captain Sergei Semak) and 14 (Roman Shirokov) were causing us problems.
"Fernando will be very important for the rest of the tournament and he was an important help for Villa to score that first goal and he gave a tough time to their defence."
Torres admitted: "At the time I wasn't happy but the disappointment soon went. The team is the important thing."
