St Helens prop Jason Cayless looks set to miss the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final against Leeds next month through injury.
The New Zealand international suffered medial knee ligament damage in the 52-10 engage Super League win over Hull KR last Friday, and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
Second rower Chris Flannery is in the same boat and picking up a similar injury, although he is more likely to be available for the semi-final showdown on July 26.
"We are glad that they are not cruciate injuries but it will be touch and go for the semi-final for Flannery, let alone Cayless," said Saints coach Daniel Anderson.
"It's tough because Mike Bennett and Nick Fozzard are not available but we have a good squad that are beginning to hit top form."
