This is a discussion on Something I noticed within the European Sports forums, part of the Sports Forums category; Soccer (sorry, I know it's "football" but it's easier for me if I just keep referring to it as soccer) ...

Soccer (sorry, I know it's "football" but it's easier for me if I just keep referring to it as soccer) seems to be getting much more recognition here in the States.
ESPN (our all-sports channel) has been periodically showing Premier League highlights on SportsCenter (its highlight/recap show) and putting soccer stories on the front page of its website.
Deadspin, the biggest U.S. sports blog, has a guy who writes about the Premier LEague weekly, and the comments section of his posts are usually quite active
I've noticed a lot of bars with signs outside of them saying that they are showing EPL league games and that European championship thing that just ended today. A lot of my friends can name at least a few Premier League teams, and even a few famous players. In fact, several of my fcoi-workers were watching an online play-by-play of the Chelsea-Man U game today.
So, do you guys think soccer might start getting a decent following in the US? I'm not trying to suggest it will get a following as big as baseball or American football, but perhaps it might start to register in the common sports fan's consciousness.
And, if Americans start to follow soccer, do you think the US League (Major League Soccer) stands a chance? Or will Americans only be drawn to the higher level of play abroad, such as in Europe?

Yeah, I think this soccer following has been growing over the couple years since the World Cup.. I've even found myself watching a couple Champions League games seeing as they were on during the week when I'd come home from class at like 2pm and nothing else was on..
However, only speaking for myself, I am only attracted to the highest level of soccer such as what you'd see in UEFA or when the World Cup starts again.
MLS screams "Bush league" to me. I know the players aren't nearly as talented and the crowds aren't nearly as large or vocal.
I'm glad to see Soccer is getting some recoginiztion here in the States. I think Soccer would be a lot bigger here in the USA if the MLS didn't suck so much. They are nothing compared to the European teams, but they are getting better. I know this has been used a lot, but Beckham did help out a lot to get people aware that Soccer can be fun, and can be a big deal. I think if they did show EPL (English Prem games) here in the USA, instead of having to buy a channel would help a lot also. It will take time, I don't think it will ever get as big as some of the main sports, but as I said, it needs time. There has already been a huge increase in some games, like New York/Los Angeles, the bigger teams like that. Just needs time, it's getting there.
Another thing about the States is because of how diverse this country is, the influx of Spanish speaking cultures, Asians, and what have you.. these people are very interested in soccer..
