Bit of a pity that it came down to the pot luck of penalties but was a great atmosphere in my local, place went nuts when United won. Thought we'd lost it when Ronaldo missed but what a great turnaround! WOOOOOOOO!

I think they should play sudden death until someone scores. I hate penalty kicks. I love the drama of a sudden death goal. Clutch saves.. what have you. I'd kill someone if the NHL went to a shootout scenario for the Stanley Cup.

If that happened in football they'd all drop down dead with exhaustion, lol. Unfortunately until another viable method is thought of it's going to have to be penalties. It's cruel, but the only way.
I think maybe penalties at some point before extra time could be used. At least the losing team has the chance of winning the match fairly.

Re: United - Champions of Europe Once Again!
There are lots of ideas, my personal favourite is having to take two players off every five minutes. Once you've got that much space with tired players they'll soon be a goal.
But, it'd be no fun for the rest of the world.
England would have won the World Cups in 90, 98 and 2006 along with the 96 and 2004 Euros if there wasn't penalties, and I know there's a lot of you out there that don't want that To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Well.. How many players are on each team and aren't used? I think at some point in the match, maybe after 120 minutes they can use more substitutions and possibly bring someone back that they took off earlier.. That wouldn't create problems would it? I think it would be a much better way to go..

Yes, I do watch the Champions League on occasion.
11 start. In the CL you get 7 subs but can only use 3 of them. Personally i think 5 is a better number with 8 subs.
Bringing players back on wouldent work. Lets say United took off Ronaldo after to scored & brought on another defender. But when it got close to penalties they bring him back on so he can take one? Add in the fact that subs are supposed to be used for 1.) Tactics gone wrong, 2.) Injury, 3.) Fatigue.
Also the small fact that if a player has been playing at full pace, come off & relaxs but then has to go back on & catch up he would probably be three times more likely to get injured.
I know it works (Or something similar anyway) in NFL but American Football is a lot slower & tactics need to be changed after every play, Soccer doesnt have that.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. More subs because I would get rid of penalty kicks ENTIRELY. I don't want a match decided by that.. not a championship match anyway.
