England coach Fabio Capello has dropped Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas after reducing his squad from 30 to 23 ahead of Wednesday's friendly in France.
Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young, Shaun Wright-Phillips, David Wheater and Jermain Defoe are also out, while Scott Carson and Matthew Upson are injured.
Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson comes in to replace Carson.
David Beckham retains his place in the squad and could get the chance to win his 100th England cap in Paris.
Jenas scored the opening goal of Capello's reign in the friendly win over Switzerland last month, while Wright-Phillips got the winner.
Capello risks his squad for Wednesday being hit by injuries to key players when Liverpool play Manchester United and Arsenal play Chelsea on Sunday.
The Italian has voiced his concern over the timing of the Premier League fixtures.
"This is a friendly - having said that I'm not ecstatic, not happy about it," said Capello.
"Some of the players I will not be able to train as I would like to."
Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Kirkland (Wigan Athletic) Defenders: Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Joleon Lescott (Everton), John Terry (Chelsea), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham Hotspur) Midfielders: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (AstonVilla), Owen Hargreaves (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), David Bentley (Blackburn Rovers), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), David Beckham (LA Galaxy), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough) Forwards: Michael Owen (Newcastle United), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
I know its only a friendly but is he serious??
Walcott ahead of Jermaine Defoe, come on, Defoe is 6 in 6 at the moment and in outstanding form.

If Fabio Capello was serious about showing his players that they need to be disciplined, and show respect to match officials, then he’d have left out Ashley Cole from the entire squad. Yes, Cole did ‘apologise’ but I’m sure it was only because someone told him too.
Why is Crouch in? He’s hardly played for Liverpool recently. Defoe is unlucky not to be kept in the squad.
I don’t really see why Capello announced a 30man squad on Thursday, and then cut it down to 23 today. I’d have just announced the 23 man squad today.

Now we just need Justin Hoyte to have two or three good games & he's in aswell. What other reason could their be for picking Hargreves?

West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green has been called into the England squad for Wednesday's friendly in France after Wigan's Chris Kirkland was ruled out with a back injury.
I like what Capello is doing, by having a few different players have a go at leading the squad before the qualifiers kick off. I still think Gerrard will get it on a permanent basis.
I think the rotating captain thing is a good idea, and I do hope Gerrard gets the captaincy as John Terry annoys me for some reason I mean all credit to him he is a great footballer but i nether liked him as captain.
Ohh and England vs France has just kicked off,Beckham starts to win his 100th cap
